SCHOOL'S FAMILY DAY: ANNUAL LUNCH AT LOTUS DESARU BEACH RESORT

15th September 2018 ~ There was actually a telematch session for the teachers, staff and family members before the lunch started. I couldn't see any photos being published in the official school's social media channels, so I would leave it like that. Even though it was fun, but the poses and the people in actions could be humiliating to be seen by the public.

The lunch event had to be done in 2 hours so everything was carried out in a simple manner. Short speeches, lunch, lucky draws and games - and was ended by a group photo session.

my lucky draw prize - the very first one
My number was drawn the first for the raffle.  And I got a (woman's) shawl, of all the things in the whole wide world. *sigh*

The whole thing ended by 2:00 p.m. and the party poppers made their way back home to Johor Bahru. However, a few of my male colleagues and I had already plotted another plan before going home.

Congratulations to all the organizing committee members on the work all done and everyone who had traveled all the way to Desaru for this event.

TO BE CONTINUED....

SDJ's ANNUAL LUNCH/HI-TEA 2017

It was time for the teachers and staff to come and eat-all-they-can, organized by the KEBIRUS [staff club]. It was held at KSL Hotel Johor Bahru and the theme chosen was purple so [almost] everyone turned up looking purplish. Lucky I already have a purple shirt. I was here for the third time already, but I really liked the buffet hi-tea served here.

karaoke session
Everything was done informally and thank god there were no long speeches sessions. Then there was the lucky draw event and volunteers singing karaoke. The rest was just focused on eating.

At the same time, my former school SMK Mutiara Rini was also having their annual lunch/hi-tea at the same place and time. I really had more people to say "hi" and talk to this time [read: gossip].

I am waiting for more photos to arrive from my friends of SMKMR to be published in my blog.

THE PREFECTS' ANNUAL END OF YEAR LUNCH

25TH AUGUST 2017 ~ The Prefects of SMK Dato' Jaafar held its annual end of the year lunch today at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Johor Bahru. Many administrators and teachers could not make it this time as it coincided with the first day of the one week school break.

It was a short event and everything ended by 5:00 p.m. Everybody seemed to be happy by the end of the session, hence the objective of the programme was successfully achieved.

ANNUAL CHESS CLUB END-OF-YEAR PARTY AT KFC

10th October ~ The annual Chess Club party was held today at our favourite spot, i.e. KFC Taman Universiti. Initially I could not join in the fun as I had another school function to attend on Friday morning (what?) but the event ended earlier so I still had the time to go before the Friday prayer.

It was good to see familiar faces of people whom you knew well. 10 committee members and 2 teacher advisers of SMKTUN Chess Club were there having their meals when I arrived but a few went people went missing right after that.

So this was the reason for their disappearance - running to the Aeon Shopping Mall just across the street to buy a cake and a present. [*NOTE: old people (like me) do not celebrate birthday anymore, especially in a public place, as it might cause embarrassment - unless you insist]

Thanks to everyone for inviting, and thanks also for the birthday celebration. I do not know I will still be involved in chess activities in the future, but perhaps I will just get busy for the district and state level management.

This is something which I should have done much earlier but there was no appropriate time. This is the video produced by the Chess Club members and the school chess players, the present and the past, to thank me when I had to leave for my new work place.

What I could say is I was there just to supervise but it was all your hard-work, commitment and determination that had made everything possible. It was easy working with you all as you were a group of people who could organize things on your own and you had made the group mobilized. SMK Taman Universiti has been recognized as a strong contender for every district level chess competitions and have produced many players for state level tournaments. And I hope this will continue even though I am no longer around in school. Good luck SMKTUN Chess Club!

A COURSE, AN ANNUAL LUNCH AND A WEDDING - IN ONE DAY

 I N - H O U S E  T R A I N I N G

The third in-house training for teachers was held again in CTL, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. It had to do with something with the theme of "Loving Teachers". I only managed to listen to the second speaker's talk. I was too tired from the previous trip to KL to get up earlier.

A N N U A L  L U N C H

Once the course was ended, everybody made their way to Persada Johor for the KEBIRUS (Teachers and Staff Club). Two buses were chartered to get the people who did not want to drive there. The annual lunch was held at Restoran Selasih there.

The good news: the Principal was not there and there was no bad news. We had the usual things: speeches, lucky draws and most of the time, eat till you drop. We also had a short slot for Puan Lee Kim Luan who will be retiring in December. She delivered a short but sweet speech and a few presents were handed over as our token of appreciation.(There will be a more formal and elaborate function for her next week.)

lucky for them, unlucky for me

Congratulations to the committee members who had made the event a success. Now we have to wait for another year for a similar event.

W E D D I N G

This was one event I could not miss. One reason was because I received continuous SMS alerts as well as a phone call from Mr. Radin Mohd. Hafiz, an ex-student who is now a policeman, reminding me to attend his sister's wedding (value: determination). Even though it was raining and I was a bit too full to eat, I was looking forward to meet my ex-student the policeman.

By the end of the day, and after the eating spree I had in Kuala Lumpur a few days before, I am getting really worried to get on the weighing scale. *sigh*
