DIM SUM FOR A DINNER DATE

30TH MARCH 2022 ~ After all the planning earlier, the dinner date finally became a reality with an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, Mr. Mohd. Arif Nizam, after all the planning. The chosen restaurant was Hijrah Dim Sum located at Melodies Garden.

A few tables were already occupied with people when we arrived but the place was not full.

It was my first time having dim sum at a restaurant so I was actually a bit excited to see the food that came in different shapes and colours. All this while, I just had frozen dim sum at home with no varieties except the flavours.

We were the last customers to get out of the restaurant as the place had to be closed at 9:00 p.m. Consequently, we had to find another place for coffee to complement our dim sum dinner.

THE TEACHERS' EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITY FOR THE NEW SCHOOL SESSION

The school has been reopened for 2 weeks and it is going to be the fasting month next week. This should be our first outing session for the new 2022 school session and we will have to wait after the month of Ramadhan to do this activity again.

There were not many male colleagues [of SMK Dato' Jaafar] who could join us this time but we could not wait for everyone to be there to get our ABC and Murtabak from Kampung Melayu.

The gathering was adjourned to another time hopefully in May. Until then, happy fasting 😀

WELCOMING THE MONTH OF RAMADHAN

28th March 2022 ~ Ramadhan, the month the Muslims fast, is coming. I am trying to keep the tradition alive by sending dates to colleagues and ex-colleagues for them to break fast.

I managed to see a few ex-colleagues of SMK Taman Universiti when I went there to deliver the dates. So we had a mock session of handing over the gift of Ramadhan ceremony just for the fun of it. Everybody was sporting enough (or was forced) to take part in the photo shoot session which was definitely not meant to be a formal or serious event.

To those who did not make it into this blog post, guess you will have to wait for next year. 😀

THE LAST WEEK BEFORE THE FASTING MONTH ARRIVES

All the activities that I do now involve eating. Socializing equals to eating. There are no other exciting things that happen in life - except eating. I do not know whether I should be happy or not. 😀

Thanks my SMS Muar ex-schoolmate, Mr. Mohd. Razib Noordin,  my loyal companion for the eating out sessions, for the early dinner get together at Selera Johor. This could be the last one before the arrival of Ramadhan, the fasting month, and maybe the last one before he goes back to Singapore when the border reopens.

A RENDEZVOUS THAT HAPPENED AGAIN AT RUMAH UDANG

Another ex-coursemate of UPM TESL Class of 1993 was here in town with her husband. Puan Maslinda Mohd. Dahalan contacted me in the afternoon and we still had ample time to set a dinner date at Rumah Udang in Kampung Melayu, which near my place.

Too bad they were only spending a night here or else we could go for more extensive gastronomic adventure.

Thank you Puan Maslinda a.k.a Amoi [and the husband] for the company and time. Hope to see you again soon.

HOW TO SPEND YOUR PUBLIC HOLIDAY?

Today was a public holiday for Johoreans and I thought I really had to give myself a treat after all the hard work before the school reopened a few days ago. I was lucky as Mr. Afif Farhan agreed to go for coffee in the afternoon. In fact, he knew what I was up to the moment he received my Whatsapp message.

Since I wanted to have coffee, he suggested the coffee kiosk at Village Grocer in Midvalley Megamall. And the drinks were accompanied with scones and chicken pie. It was very English of me to have scones but not with tea.

Then I decided to sate my craving for fried chicken so we marched off to Texas Chicken - from English to American. I had to bring back the 2 pieces of chicken home as the scones had already filled most part of my tummy.

Believe it or not, one of the biggest challenges to eat out these days for me is to find someone who would like to tag along. Not that eating alone is something I seldom do.

Thanks Mr. Afif Farhan for the time and company. Guess we will be doing this again after the fasting month which will be arriving soon.

VISITING A FRIEND AT KPJ ABDUL SAMAD

I took my time off today to visit a friend who was warded at KPJ Abdul Samad. Glad I could make it on time before he was discharged after that.

from the four of us

As I was about to leave, I saw a familiar face which I only saw on Facebook all the while. Thanks to Miss Lim Hui Ting, an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, who is attached as a nurse to the hospital, for saying "hi".

Wishing Mr. Mohd, Khir Masbol a speedy recovery so we could go out, gossip and eat delicious food like we used to do.

LUNCH SESSION WITH TWO EX-STUDENTS AT NANDO'S

16th MARCH 2022 ~ Two ex-students [of SMK Taman Universiti] wanted to meet up for lunch and we decided to go to Nando's at Midvallley Mega Mall. It had been a long time since I last had a meal here so I guess it was about time.

A SHORT MEETING AT FRIED BANANA RESTAURANT

15th MARCH 2022 ~ It was just a short meeting with an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, Mr. Masrizal Sayute, at the Fried Banana Restaurant in Taman Universiti. We were both in schools in the morning so it was the best time to meet up at the chosen venue.

I also wanted to pass to him his birthday present which would fall the next day, the 16th March. The timing was just right.

It is actually not that easy to set the time for our coffee session these days but to get to meet once in a while should be good enough for us.

A MINI REUNION WITH AN EX-COLLEAGUE [AND HER FAMILY MEMBERS] FROM KAJANG

12th MARCH 2022 ~ Puan Noraliza Mazni and her family were in town. They came to Johor Bahru as Mr. Zuraimi, Puan Noraliza's husband, had to carry out his duty as a good citizen to cast his vote for the state level election. A date was set with the people from Kajang with ex-colleagues of SMK Taman Universiti and the venue chosen was the famous Murtabak Food Court in Kampung Melayu.

It was only a short chat session over Murtabak and fried rice, but it all felt just like old time. Hoping to see Puan Noraliza and her family members again when they make a return trip to Johor Bahru some other time in the future.

VOTING AND FULFILLING MY SOCIAL OBLIGATION

The State Election Day was held today. I decided to go out to vote in the afternoon at the community hall near my house as I predicted there would be less people and my prediction was correct. It was all over in less than 10 minutes.

Voters were given a free pack of face mask as they checked their names at the counter. 😀

It is now time to wait for the election result but I can always find out about it tomorrow morning.
