ATTENDING A WEDDING RECEPTION IN PEKAN NANAS, PONTIAN

Today, I attended a wedding reception of the son of Mr. Jasman Sabtu, an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, in Pekan Nanas, Pontian. This is the first wedding held for the family.

The event was held at the Community Hall at Taman Emas Merah.

I got to meet a few familiar faces of ex-colleagues and teacher friends.

I was there before 12 noon and more guests seemed to be arriving after that. I had to excuse myself so I could offer my seat to the other guest.

Congratulations Mr. Jasman on the addition of the new member into the family. There are possibilities to be invited again in the future for his other children.

EID DIARY: 6TH SYAWAL 1446H - PART TWO

the table centre piece

5th APRIL 1446H   ~ I was invited by Mr. Mohd. Ariff Nizam, an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, to his open house event at his home in Pekan Nanas, Pontian. I braved driving through the heavy rain along the stretch of the road from Ulu Choh to Pekan Nanas, just to meet his family members and savour the exquisite Laksa Johor I was craving for.

 Laksa Johor

Rojak

Jelly Ice Cream

There were also other guests after I had arrived. Two big groups of people I was not familiar with so I chose to make myself at home, sitting in the cosy kitchen and enjoying my Laksa Johor while people were busy doing their work behind me.

Mr. Ariff's brother, Mr. Mohd. Aliff, is also my ex-student of the same school.

Believe it or not, this was my very first time doing Eid house visit, after 6 days celebrating Eid but it was worth the wait.

The whole family is not a stranger to me actually. They used to visit during Eid before this. Thanks for the marvelous food and great hospitality. We will be seeing each other again soon hopefully before Eid ends.

THREE WEDDING RECEPTIONS IN ONE DAY

It has been a long time since I last posted news of me attending wedding receptions. Today, there were three events that I went one after another but this time not of ex-students'.

The wedding of the daughter of Mr. Sahdon Tomin, an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, Johor Bahru. The reception was held at the school hall of SMK Dato' Mohd Yunos Sulaiman, Pekan Nanas, where he is currently teaching now.

The wedding reception of the daughter of Puan Khaliza Arbaa, an English teacher of SMK Sultanah Engku Tun Aminah. We used to do our job monitoring and supervising the marking of English papers for a national exam for the district. The reception was held at Sultanah Aminah Hospital's Staff's Quarters. I met another friend, Puan Ida Amiza and her family there.

The last wedding reception of the day fortunately started at 5.00 p.m. in Kempas. So I could go home and sleep first, and then woke up and was ready to eat some more.

This was the reception of the son of Puan Hajah Rosliza Taib, the Principal of SMK Uda Utama. I got to know her much earlier when I taught a few of her kids in my English tuition classes many years ago. There were many familiar faces at the event, mostly teachers from other schools.

There were two of my ex-students, Miss Sakinah and Mr. Aiman, and to my delight, they still remember me despite the fact that we are not connected on social media at all.

there was angklung performance but I went back earlier

After leaving the place, then only I realized that Mr. Aiman was actually the bridegroom of the day.

The place was really crowded and I could not stay long. After the three receptions, I am sure I have grown fatter and all my diet plan has already gone down the drain. There goes my new year resolution. 😐

THE WEDDING RECEPTIONS FOR 2019 HAVE ALREADY STARTED

I am so ready for all the wedding receptions that need to be attended for the year 2019. And it started today with two receptions.

I attended the wedding reception of two pairs of brides and grooms held at Rumah Alumni UTM. Mr. Azam Zaki and Mr. Nazim Zaki are siblings and both are my ex-students of SMK Taman Universiti, from SPM batch and 2008 and 2010 respectively.

Their mother who invited me, is an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti and SMK Mutiara Rini. So we had the opportunity to work together in two different schools. Puan Zaidah is now the Senior Assistant of the Afternoon Session of SMK Damai Jaya.

Another interesting fact is that 5 out of her 6 children went to SMKTUN so they are no strangers to me.

with the parents of the brides

There was some sort of a reunion with old friends from two schools taking place.

The next wedding reception was also held by an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti of the earliest batch, Puan Jamiah Basimin. It was held in Kampung Melayu Raya, Pekan Nanas, which was quite far actually. And the traffic on the road was quite bad this afternoon unfortunately.

I was glad to get invited and Puan Jamiah's husband still remembers me after all these years. Puan Jamiah is now a Senior Assistant at SMK Pekan Nanas, if I am not mistaken.

Do expect to read more reports of me going to receptions and meeting more people in my blog.
