PEOPLE PLACE 2 HOTEL, CHIANG MAI

This was the hotel I stayed for 3 nights in Chiang Mai. The location was very near to Anusarn Night Market, and you do not mind walking, you could also go to Nororit Market. The mosque is also within a walking distance. Room was clean and the staff were friendly although many were not that fluent in English.

Breakfast was also served to guests, and as usual I was there for the bread and coffee. There was no kettle in the room but the person at the counter was accommodating enough to lend me a big thermos during my stay.

The price was also reasonable so if you are not a fussy person, this should be the hotel you should consider when you plan to visit Chiang Mai in the future.

CHIANG MAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Chiang Mai Airport was just a small building but it was modern and well taken care of. I believe it has been another important entry point for tourists and locals alike.

While exploring, I came across two exhibitions on the ground floor: "The Exhibition of the Northern Ethnic" and "World on a Bike."

The latter told the story of two Thai bikers who went on a journey around the world on their bicycles. They were there to promote their photo journey books. I wanted to buy the two volumes of the books but hesitated as they were quite expensive.

Good news for Muslim travelers, there is also a praying room ["surau"] at the airport. There is no need for you to worry anymore.

Another airport to bid farewell to - I wonder whether there will be another time to be there again.

PLAYING TOURIST AT A WET MARKET

There were many people at the market on Sunday morning. While they were busy buying, I was busy looking and taking photographs. Here, the fresh fruits and vegetables were really fresh.

Other than fish and meat, there were also amphibians, dead and alive, for sale.

I was happy I managed to get some fruits to bring back home: fresh strawberries, and local fruits like "jambu air" (rose apple?) and "ciku" (sapodilla). That should conclude my 3-night stay in Chiang Mai, the Rose of the North. I was glad that I decided to go on this solo trip even though the decision was made at the eleventh hour.

Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai are the 3rd and 4th spots I have visited in Thailand, after Krabi and Bangkok. I am looking forward to seeing other parts of Thailand in the near future.

STROLLING THE STREETS OF CHIANG MAI ONE SUNDAY MORNING

Sunday morning, right after breakfast, I was already on my way to a market recommended by one of the stall operators at Anusarn Night Market. This should be another part of Chiang Mai which was not infested by tourists and at that particular time, there were not many people and much traffic on the road.

From the hotel I first had to walk to Nororit Market, and I walked further up along Ping River.

Meung Mai Market was actually located just beside the USA Consulate. It was a long walk actually but I should be the only tourist walking by the roadside at that moment. And it was worth the effort.
