THE COFFEE/TEA DATE WITH A POLICEMAN

Mr. Radin Mohd. Hafiz was in town for the short break to celebrate Eid ul-Adha with his family here. An ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, he is now attached to the the Malaysia Royal Police in Ipoh, Perak.

He texted me last night, asking me to join him and his friend for dinner, but I couldn't make it as it was at the last minute and I was ready for bed at that time. 😀 However, knowing that putting off any coffee/tea date would end up with no tea/coffee date at all, we decided to meet this afternoon at Taman Universiti.

The chosen venue: Old Town White Coffee Restaurant. I particularly like this place as there are always not many people around, and I love the Teh Tarik here. As we wanted to get something light, we ordered Sardine Roti Canai a.k.a Paratha and it was surprisingly delicious.

The chat session lasted for about an hour and hopefully we could see each other again, even though it is impossible to do it frequently. The last time I saw him was two years ago during my short trip to Ipoh [READ HERE].

CLASS OF 2019 GRADUATION CEREMONY AT THE TROVE

14th SEPTEMBER 2019 ~ The Graduation Ceremony for the fifth and sixth formers of SMK Dato Jaafar was held at the Trove Hotel this morning. This has become a formal annual event for most school these days.

The event had been rebranded to Appreciation Event but still it was to appreciate the time the students had to be in school before they spread their wings and fly away.

The guest of honour who was invited for the ceremony was Superintendent Mohd. Afzanizam Yahaya, the Deputy Chief of the Malaysia Royal Police of Johor Bahru South Division.

THE DAY THE POLICEMEN CAME TO SCHOOL

17th JUNE 2019 ~ A group of policemen came to school today - to have friendly chess matches with the chess players of SMK Dato Jaafar. The police officers were going to play in a chess competition in KL the next day so this was some kind of practice/training for them. The students were always eager to get the chance to have adults as opponents - and not to enter classrooms.

The whole session lasted for about three hours and we had already planned for the next friendly matches soon with the people from police headquarters which is just next door. This looked like a simple activity but it was more exciting to get to play with people you don't get to see in school every day.

THE DAY THE HELICOPTER CAME (TO SCHOOL)

We are most of the time too busy with our work. We keep repeating the same routine, day in and day out, until life becomes mundane and monotonous. Then, suddenly there is one small thing happening that gets us a tad excited. We simply abandon the mountainous heap of workload on the table and become happy again, at least for a short moment. That was the day when the helicopter landed on the school field.

WHY? The Sultan of Johor's Princess was getting married and the Police helicopter needed a huge space to park. We at first thought it was there to ferry the royalties, dignitaries and ministers, but it was stationary when it was not on patrol duty.

It landed for the second time at about 3.30 p.m. when most of the teachers and students had already gone back home. Those who were still in school went closer to the helicopter to get themselves photographed and even had a chat with the policemen/pilots on duty.

Just imagine what would happen if we were taken for a helicopter ride after that (which never happened). We were still a bunch of happy people nonetheless.

WHEN THE POLICEMEN WERE IN SCHOOL THE WHOLE DAY

Tuesday, 18th March 2014 ~ A programme was carried out in school today, involving the Police Department. [TRANSLATED: POLICE CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMME WITH MCPF (I don't know that stands for what) AND SCHOOL] It was something like a police community programme with schools.

There were exhibition stalls put up at the school compound that students could visit. Then, the State Police Chief came to school by cycling and apart from the opening ceremony speech, there were demonstrations done at the assembly area but it was raining cats and dogs so one of the demonstrations involving the police dogs had to be cancelled, to the disappointment of the crowd. Finally, the VIPs were invited to the school hall for tea and the school Angklung Group was given the honour to play a few songs (four to be exact) to entertain the guests.

It was such a short event but still it was a success despite the fact that we do not have enough space for everything in school. Congratulations abound!
