STAYING IN A WEEKEND CAMPING SITE IN SIRMIONE, ITALY

During our stay in Milan, we spent the nights at Weekend Glamping Resort, San Felice del Benaco, Sirmione. We were there from 23rd to 24th of October. We actually should be checking earlier [the evening before] but because of some issues at the airport, we only managed to reach the place at abput 3:00 a.m. [READ HERE]

We stayed in chalets which did not look like the one in a camping site and mine was a house with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a dining area + kitchen. This place was actually huge and I did not have the time to explore as we went out in the morning and were only back late in the evening. There were other types of accommodation here for sure.

Breakfast and lunch were prepared by the tour leader for all the group members so cooking activities happened early in the morning every day here.

For one thing, many olive trees were planted around the area. There were olive farms nearby that we passed by every time going in and out of the place.

The view outside was lovely but we were a bit unlucky as it was most of the time cloudy with intermittent drizzle during the day. We managed to get good photos the moment before we left the place and move to the second accommodation in Italy.

ENJOYING THE CREAMY AND SOFT GELATO IN SIRMIONE

19th OCTOBER 2024    ~ Our gastronomic adventure in Sirmione was different from the trips I had been to before. We just bought gelato or soft ice cream, as suggested by my friend cum tour group leader.

The name of the ice cream shop we went to was Mirkoz Gelateria dal 1988.

The reasons you should get the gelato in Sirmione are: The gelato was bigger in portion i.e. the scoop was bigger, the ice cream was creamy and the price was way much cheaper than the imported ice cream you always find in the ice cream parlour in shopping mall at home.

As for now, I would have no choice but  to just be happy with the ice cream tub resting in the refrigerator.

THE COLOURFUL PORCELAIN SHOP IN SERMIONE OLD TOWN

19th OCTOBER 2024    ~ Of all the shops in the old town of Sermione, the only one I went into was the porcelain shop, as recommended by the tour leader. The shop was filled with vibrant and colourful porcelain oh all sorts, shapes and sizes.

For one thing, people who went into the shop were allowed to take photos. From my previous experience, some arts and craft shop did not permit visitors to snap any pictures of the items on sale.

According to the Italian lady at the counter, who could be the owner of the shop, all the products were locally hand made and she even had stickers stuck on each piece verify this.

Both the tour leader and I got something from this shop to bring back home. If you come to visit me during Eid, I will show you the pieces to remember Sirmione by.

EXPLORING THE OLD CITY OF SIRMIONE IN THE RAIN

23rd OCTOBER 2024     ~ After going up and down and all around the castle, it was time to explore the old city of Sirmione. It was unfortunately raining which in a way hampered the sightseeing activity.

The old city has become a tourist attraction so you could see many shops and cafes everywhere. If you are an architecture geek, the narrow old streets and Italian brick buildings are the sight to behold.

I guess this place is not in the list of Malaysian travelers as I don't think I met anyone from home while walking around.

We found ourselves on another side of Lake . We were on a different spot of the lake earlier. Sirmione is actually located on a narrow stretch of protruding land on the lake, as shown on the map.

There were actually other places to visit but we would need more time to do that. Furthermore, the weather was not too kind on that day. Other group members spent lesser time here. Most probably, they were still tired of yesterday's journey from Malaysia to Milan [we only managed to check in at the homestay at 4:00 a.m.] and there were families with small children. You would need more than one day to explore the city thoroughly and visit other tourists' spots.
