ENCORE MELAKA REVISITED

20TH JULY 2026    ~ The main agenda of the Melaka trip this time was to watch and introduce the theatre "Encore Melaka". This was my second time at the theatre, the first time was back in 2018 [READ HERE]. I wanted to introduce the show my friend, Mr. Redzuan, who seemed to be keen in watching.

The hall was about 50% full on Monday evening. One side of the seats was filled with busload of school children.

The show that I watched was almost the same with the one presented 8 years ago. However, the old one was longer and more elaborate. The new one was simplified and there were scenes that was cut off, I think.

VIDEO #5: The show I recorded and uploaded on Youtube in 2018.

It was customary to take photos around the iconic theatre building on the reclaimed land. We even managed to catch the sunset before going home. I did the same when I was there the first time [READ HERE].

You can buy the tickets online and it cost RM78 for Malaysian citizen. I bought from Agoda and got RM10 cheaper. You must watch Encore at least once. By the way, there was another show with a different theme in the afternoon which would be something new.

One thing worth mentioning, I found the seat was very uncomfortable. It was hard and the leg space was too small especially for a long-legged person like me. I wonder if the management could do something about it.

THE ICONIC ENCORE MELAKA THEATRE BUILDING

I was here on 8th of September 2018 to watch the theatre "Melaka the Untold Story". We arrived here earlier to get the booked tickets and I was in awe upon seeing the majestic structure for the first time.  noticed the structure was built on a reclaimed land on the Straits of Melaka.

Here are some interesting facts gathered from the brochure I collected from the ticket counter:

  • The chief architect behind this massive project is Mr. Wang Ge of the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design.
  • It is Southeast Asia's largest performing art theatre.
  • There are 360-degree rotating audience platform facing a 240-metre long stage with multiple built in hydraulic stages.
  • The geometric ceiling consists of concaved arcs made out of thousand of fish scale like LED panels.

There were many people walking around the building that evening, admiring the unique design. Everyone was busy posing and clicking away their camera phones. The newlywed couples were seen doing their outdoor wedding photo shoots there - and there were many of them. I guess it has become Melaka's prominent spot for this activity now.

I was so impressed with the toilets - very clean and modern, I was not the only one taking photos of it. There even more people who posed outside the toilet and took photo as it was too beautiful to resist.

entering the theatre

The three doors are the main entrance which will be closed with the moving panels before the theatre starts. If you are late, there is no way for you to get in or else you will find yourself dancing and singing together with the actors.

I really hope I could come back here one day to watch other theatre.
