JOINING ANOTHER ACTIVITY WITH THE SENIOR CITIZENS

29TH NOVEMBER 2025    ~ I was at Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas (PAWE) [TRANSLATE: Senior Citizens Activity Centre located in Ungku Mohsin. I was actually with PAKK group [Children Activity Centre]. I am not yet in the senior citizens category yet.

This was another activity under another unit of Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) [TRANSLATE: Welfare Department].The main objective was to bridge interaction between the aging people with the young through the activities carried out.

After breakfast, the first activity was aerobics exercise.

I did not even know I was to take part in the carrom games that morning.

The small kids called me "grandpa" already.

I even took home a consolation prize.

It was good to be involved earlier and I now know where to go or what to do if one day I get bored at home.

VISITING THE FAMOUS CHIROPRACTOR IN JOHOR BAHRU AGAIN

Something went wrong with my wrist went I lifted a very heavy pot filled with soil last week. As the pain did not subside, it was time to visit Uncle Chong junior, the famous traditional Chinese chiropractor in Johor Bahru at Ungku Mohsin one more time.

I went there at 7:30 a.m. to get my number and I got number 39. I wonder at what time did the person who managed to grab number 1 come here? 5:00 a.m.? So I went back home first, rather than waiting impatiently for my turn to come. Even at 7:30 a.m., people were already waiting in the house compound for the medicine man to open shop.

I came back at about 9:45 a.m. and there were already many people waiting - either sitting down on the few stools provided, or just standing while watching the patients being treated by Mr. Chiropractor.

By 9:55 my number was called and just a few minutes, my hand was already bandaged. (I saw number 88 was not yet taken at that time.) Was it painful? I would rather go through the few seconds of pain rather than suffer it for a longer period of time. Hopefully my wrist will get back to normal in two days. {I need a holiday already!]

For those interested to visit Mr. Chong, here is some information that might be useful to you.

The number of visitors day coming here coming here every day should tell you whether he is good or not. There are people from different walks of life, of all ages and races. You can always consider another alternative for your medical needs.

VISITING THE FAMOUS CHIROPRACTOR IN JOHOR BAHRU

I had been working too hard during the Chinese New Year break, lifting big flower pots and heavy soil for the plants. Consequently, my right hand was injured and I was living in pain for the past 2 weeks. Today, as the mid term school break had just started, I made my way to Kampung Ungku Mohsin to meet the famous chiropractor in Johor Bahru. I could not go during weekdays as the traditional practitioner could not issue medical certificates. I had been here many times before. Back in 1994, when I met with an accident and broke my collar bone, I had sought help from Uncle Chong.

I arrived at the house by 8:30 a.m. There was already a big crowd there, people from all walks of life, regardless of races and religious beliefs were eagerly waiting for their turns. I managed to secure number 53. So I went back home first (lucky my house is near) to get breakfast and returned later. I wonder how early did all these people come here to get their numbers?

the crowd at 10:30 a.m.
You would know how well-known this place is just by looking at the crowd. People were telling even the Sultan (or the royal family) came here for treatment. Uncle Chong had also made appearance on national television.

When I arrived there at 10:30 a.m., my number was called after 10 minutes. For most cases which do not require the patients to take off their shirts, the twisting, pulling, tugging, massaging and relocating activities are done in the open and other people are free to watch but not for the faint-hearted. In contrast, there are also rooms for treatment for other cases and for ladies where privacy is needed.

This time, the person who treated me was not the usual Uncle Chong but Mr. Chong junior, I supposed. Everything lasted for about 5 minutes. The usual question would be: was it painful? It was painful alright but better to suffer for just a few minutes and get a speedy recovery rather than suffering the pain for a longer period of time.

Pray that I will recover soon so I could enjoy the one week school break to the fullest.
