STARTING OFF THE KL ROAD TRIP WITH BREAKFAST

7th AUGUST 2026     ~ The my very first road trip to Kuala Lumpur started off with the breakfast session. We chose to eat at this restaurant called De Selera Pantai Timur in Taman Pulai Mutiara, as it was located on our way out into the main road.

There were not many people when we were there as people had already clocked in for work.

The specialty of this place was its East Coast cuisines and I decided to try Nasi Dagang, while my friend just settled for Sardine Murtabak.

We had to make a move because there would still be a long way to go. This was just the beginning of the gastronomic adventure of the road trip. I don't mind coming back to this place to try its other food, may be for lunch or dinner.

THERE IS ALWAYS A FIRST TIME AT AHMAD'S

Ahmad's Fried Chicken just started its business at Taman Pulai Mutiara. My gastronomic buddy, Mr. Redzuan, suggested we went there to try the food.

We were there at about 5:00 p.m. and the place was jam packed with diners and people taking away. It must be the excitement of trying the fried chicken at a new restaurant, or it was already pay day for government servants.

THE VERDICT: Mr. Redzuan reported the Beef Burger was the ordinary one. I had fried chicken and my spicy version was too curry-ful. You could already see it from the color of the chicken skin. The food was cheaper than other fast food restaurants I think, and you got the huge glasses for your drinks instead of the regular ones.

I met two ex-students of SMK Taman Universiti in the restaurant. One of them, Miss Rosieyati [forgive me if I got her name wrong] was there with her three children and was kind enough to pay for my meal. Today must be my lucky day.

Once Eid month has ended, I shall then continue with my regular gastronomic adventure.

MY HOMETOWN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE STARTED AFTER THE END OF FASTING

My gastronomic adventure with my buddy started on the 9th day of Syawal - 9 days after fasting in the month of Ramadhan ended. My gastronomic adventure buddy, Mr. Redzuan, was also free to go food hunting so I decided to ask him out for my early dinner.

Initially we wanted to go to this one place but it was not opened yet after Eid, or had closed down for the day. It should be operating according to Google Maps but we were deceived by the information. It happened to us recently when the information of an eating place was not correct on Google Map. Hence, we made a return trip to Restoran Tomyam Syafiq in Taman Pulai Mutiara, our second time here.

We had the meal set for two, which was actually quite a lot. The Thai food was good and it was worth the money.

Thanks to Mr. Redzuan for the time. Hope he is ready to continue with our regular meeting for all kinds of food after this.

THE GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE IN JB WITH GUESTS FROM PENANG - PART TWO

Asam Pedas

As planned, I took Puan Aishah Aboo Bakar and her husband, Mr. Arif, for lunch today. Since she wanted Asam Pedas, I decided to drive them to Piring Puteh Restaurant located in Taman Pulai Mutiara. Why? Because I was there a few weeks ago and found the food served delicious.

Ikan Sepat Masak Lemak

Omelette

Fried Water Spinach

Fried Lady Finger

Squid in Sambal

Fried Chicken

I am glad the lovely husband and couple from Penang loved the lunch Johor style. Mr. Arif paid for the meal, whereas it should be who should do so as the host.

That concluded the gastronomic adventure of my friends from Penang in Johor Bahru this time. I bade them farewell for now and hoped to see them again next week.

THE GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE AFTER THREE WEDDING RECEPTIONS IN ONE DAY

After the three wedding receptions in one day, I just needed my coffee fix before driving back home. Luckily enough, my friend, Mr. Ridzuan, whose house was near the third wedding hall, was free and wanted to get his early dinner.

We headed to Taman Pulai Mutiara and he suggested this restaurant called Tomyam Syafiq. It was actually his first time here and he seemed to be impressed by the menu and prices offered. Initially he wanted to go to this one place but we found out the shop had already closed down.

Mr. Ridzuan was having Khao Mok Rice, a Thai cuisine. I on the other hand was too full to eat anything else.

I am glad to have someone who enjoys eating out and experience dining in both new and regular places. Guess I will have for another gastronomic adventure to happen soon.

OF A LUNCH DATE AND GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE

I could not remember when was the last time I embarked on a gastronomic adventure in town. One valid reason could be it was now quite difficult to get other people to join or to get invited. Everyone seemed to have tight schedules these days.

I had a lunch date today at a restaurant called Piring Puteh located in Taman Pulai Mutiara which was a bit further away from home. It was alright as I had a lot of time to spend in the afternoon and the traffic was not bad during working hours.

The interior decor was interesting as there were many [fake] plants inside that provided a calm and green ambience.

We had authentic Malay dishes for our meal: Ikan Sepat Masin Masak Lemak [Salted Fish in Coconut Gravy], Asam Pedas Ikan Siakap and Kangkung Goreng [Fried Water Spinach]. THE VERDICT: delicious food and I will not hesitate to come back again with other friends.

I just got to know there is also another branch nearer to my place, at Giant Tampoi. So there is a high possibility for me to recce that specific eating place soon.

Thanks to Mr. Ridzuan, my newly found gastronomic adventurer, for the recommendation and the treat as well. Looking forward to the next adventure and for the next outing, it will be my turn.
