I bought this book when I was in KL recently. I was reading it during breaks in between meeting sessions and managed to finish it within five days, which was actually a record for me.
This book is a totally different genre from Archer's previous works. No twist in the tale this time, it tells a journey of George Mallory, the first Englishman who was believed to have successfully reached Mount Everest. However, some thought that he did not make it because he was found dead at the end of the expedition, so there was no evidence he had set foot on the peak of the mountain. The book was written with careful description of a mountaineer based on true historical facts but yet it was quite exciting to read through until the end. Nevertheless, as the conflicts were not that intense and the story was very straightforward, it makes the novel a bit dry if compared to his other masterpiece. Still a very good read though, and that has proven that I am now addicted to Archer's.
To tell you the truth, I almost gave up reading this book as I found it was quite slow in the beginning. However, patience is the keyword. As the plot was getting interesting, without realizing, I had spent my entire Sunday finishing this novel. Another masterpiece by Archer, this time the readers would be taken to trips around main cities like New York, London and Bucharest. Centralizing on the main character, Anna, who is a maestro in fine arts and paintings, the story is intertwined beautifully between the description of paintings and great painters like Van Gogh, Picasso, Rembrandt, and names I haven't heard before. Anna who is indirectly involved in an illegal activity is trying hard to break away from her evil boss and at the same time saving others. You know Archer, there would be a lot of twists and turns, making you guess what is going to happen in the end. Another heart-stopping and adrenalin-pumping action novel, a must read for Archer's fans.
I am proud to announce that I have finished reading this 616-page book even though it took ages for me to do so. I remembered buying this book from Miri on June 29th, an achievement for me so far! This is what you would call a good book written by a good writer. A good book is one you can't get rid of and wish that you have the whole time in the world just to finish reading it. The story centralizes on the protagonist, Danny who was convicted with a crime which he did not commit i.e. killing his own best friend. Sent to jail, he befriended two people and managed to free himself from the prison walls and planned to take revenge on people who had conspired against him earlier. It is a series of stories that take place almost everywhere, in the courtroom, in the prison, in a rich man's world and back to the courtroom; it is a tale full of conspiracy, lies and deceits. Knowing Archer, there are just too many twists in the tale that makes reading more exciting. I wonder if the Americans are going to make this into a movie. Nevertheless, I have another Archer's in my collection waiting to be picked up.
