TWO WEDDING RECEPTIONS AT THE NEIGHBOURS' HOUSES IN ONE AFTERNOON

There were two wedding receptions that needed to be attended at neighbours' houses this afternoon.

WEDDING #1

The first one was of the neighbour opposite my house. Guess I had no reason not to attend despite the fact that we were notified only last night.

Thank God there were Surau [small community mosque] goer friends who were also attending the event.

WEDDING #2

The next reception happened four houses away from mine, right beside the Surau.

I just took the kuih [traditional dessert] and watermelon as I didn't think I could eat more. I actually had an upset stomach after that for eating too much.

This should be the very last wedding receptions before fasting starts next Thursday. What a relief!

ATTENDING A NEIGHBOUR'S DAUGHTER'S WEDDING RECEPTION

27TH DECEMBER 2025 ~ A neighbour, Mr. Sujasmin Azis, held the wedding reception for his daughter, the first for his family. The venue was at Elfieda Bridals & Event located at Paragon Market.

I did not take rice this time as I had another reception to attend right after.

Thankfully there were other neighbours who were already there when I arrived and I managed to squeeze in for a spot at the table.

How are the father of the bride and I connected? We regularly meet at the Surau [the smaller version of the mosque] for our daily prayers.

I had to excuse myself as I had to drive to the next venue and at the same time, more people were arriving at the hall. Congratulations to Mr. Sujasmin on the arrival of the first son-in-law in the family and there will be more to come for sure.

ATTENDING THE WEDDING RECEPTION OF A NEIGHBOUR

19TH JULY 2025    ~ A neighbour got married today and I was looking forward to attending it as the last one I went to was long ago [or was it last month?]

I was there with friends from my surau - the smaller scale of a mosque.

The food was great and I was impressed with its dessert spread on the buffet table. Lunch was considered taken outside today and I was happy to get to see people from my neighbourhood.

ATTENDING A WEDDING RECEPTION OF ANOTHER NEIGHBOUR'S SON

2ND FEBRUARY 2025    ~ The wedding reception was held at home and it was just two houses away from mine. A few friends and I decided to be among the early birds so we were there at 12:00 noon when guests were welcomed to the event.

Believe it or not, this was the fifth wedding reception I attended this year. There will be more one more coming next week, but further away.

ATTENDING A WEDDING RECEPTION OF A NEIGHBOUR'S SON

These days, wedding receptions are usually done in wedding halls and no longer at the homes of the brides and grooms. Today however I went to attend the event held at the house of the bride. The invitation came from the groom's father who is my neighbour. We were invited to the receptions of the bride's side in Kampung Pasir.

To be seated at the same table with six other people from my neigbourhood would be something very rare for me.

There was a real invitation card sent before the reception. We now only receive e-card on social media platform like WhatsApp.

Another traditional practice that we encountered today was we were given packed food to bring home before going home. This was something common many years ago.

There was another wedding reception of a neighbour's son which will be held at his house tomorrow.
