RAIDING THE ANCIENT TEMPLE OF TA PROHM - PART 2

The activity here was simply walking around and admiring the ancient stones and the tree roots and collapsed walls. How simple life was at that moment.

Jolie was here, so was I :)
Eventually we arrived at the so-called spot where Angelina Jolie once stood. Believe it or not, people had to queue up to get themselves photographed at this very place. Objective was achieved so off we went. Been there, done that...

That was the end of our temple tour in Siem Reap. My advice: make sure you have a pair of good walking shoes and bring along drinking water, a lot of it. It would be best to get a tour guide for all the temple trips but it was a bit costly (for me). Nevertheless, I google for more information every time I come back from any trip especially before I update my travelogue posts.

Suddenly I feel like a historian. You better visit Ta Prohm while it is still standing.

RAIDING THE ANCIENT TEMPLE OF TA PROHM - PART 1

There could be hundred of temples in Siem Reap but the three important ones are Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm. In order to get to the temple, visitors had to take a long walk from the entrance (and another long walk to get to the exit later). The temple seemed to be hidden somewhere in the jungle.

Unlike the Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple, Ta Phrom looked the most ancient - too ancient that trees had outgrown the building. People here seemed to be interested in tree roots so much as the sight of the uprooting trees on bricks of the buildings had become some sort of work of art.

Some parts of the temple were already destroyed by the crawling roots which reminded me of the story "Jack and the Beanstalk". We could walk through the small passages of the temples but some of them had fallen apart that we were rerouted to a safer flow of "traffic".

And the main objective here: to get to the place where Angelina Jolie was once filmed for the movie "Tomb Raider".

MOVIE REVIEW - "UNBROKEN"

I was heading home from school on one Saturday afternoon and knowing that I would just simply sleep once I arrived home, I diverted and went to watch a movie directed by Angelina Jolie. It was a brilliant decision made and I must say, this was another good movie based on a true life story of Louis Zamperini.

Zamperini was the USA's Olympics athlete who was involved in World War ll. After his bomber plane crashed into the sea, Zamperini and his comrade were adrift in a raft for 47 days before they were saved by none other than the Japanese soldiers. Another chapter began when he had more horrifying moments being tortured as the prisoner of war- but he still survived up until the end.

The lesson learned: war is never good to anyone and this movie reminds me of the Remnants of War Museum which I visited when I went to Ho Chi Minh.

Go and watch this movie if you want to find the meaning of survival, resilience and redemption. A very inspiring film, indeed and I will be looking for the novel after this.
