THE GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE IN ROMPIN

28th JUNE 2026    ~ Before checking in at the chalet, we stopped by for lunch at Rompin. The name of the restaurant was Wan's Nine Corner. We had gone exploring before that and discovered Pantai Hiburan [READ HERE] and the time spent at the beach sure had made us hungry.

There were still people eating when we arrived at about 1:30 p.m. but less choices of dishes left. Many people might have come earlier. I had eaten at this place before in December 2022, during a road trip with my ex-colleagues. [READ HERE]

Initially the plan was to eat at this popular spot in Endau but there were too many people when we arrived. Eventually I did not get to eat there and I was truly sad and disappointed.

Lunch was good and the price was reasonable. We did not stay long as the weather was hot and we were already tired. We needed to check in and get a good rest.

THE FIRST GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE IN PENGERANG

1ST JUNE 2026    ~ The first gastronomic adventure in Pengerang happened for dinner. We randomly chose this place called Warisan Pak Busu Mat. The major attraction of this place is of its location - by the sea side.

There were already people who came for dinner when we arrived.

We tried its Asam Pedas Ikan Pari (Stingray) to go with our rice, besides fried cuttlefish and vegetables. The taste was alright, but we had had better dinner somewhere else.

We had to conclude our gastronomic trip by enjoying the view of the sea in the evening and striking a few poses before leaving the place.

THE GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE IN TELUK MAS, MELAKA

21ST APRIL 2026    ~ I was with the JKM [Welfare Department] educational visit to Melaka, stopping at two venues. In between the two places, we stopped for lunch at  Restoran Nooraidah Hj. Isenin in Teluk Mas, Umbai, Melaka. [The lunch was paid by the organizer].

When in Melaka, then eat like Malaccans do. I chose a plate of white rice, Asam Pedas Ikan Pari [Stingray] which would be the signature dish of the place, Fried Chicken and Fried Mixed Vegetables.

Everything was good and if you are in this area and thinking of having lunch with Malay traditional dishes, this could be an option you might consider.

RETURNING TO SUNGAI MELAYU FOR THE STINGRAY ASAM PEDAS

9th AUGUST 2020 ~ I was back at Sungai Melayu but this time with a mission to accomplish. Since I was there, I might as well have that unforgettable Stingray Asam Pedas. This time I had an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, Mr. Zharfan Amir, accompanying.

Food was good as usual and Mr. Zharfan loved the dishes served on the table.

I just had to take Mr. Zharfan to this spot which I found to be scenic and serene. I got to know there is this boat tour activity and I am so looking forward to go on this trip, especially when international travel is not possible at this time.

A SHORT TRIP TO SUNGAI MELAYU FOR EARLY DINNER WITH AN EX-CLASSMATE

Mr. Abdul Razak Sapian, an ex-classmate of SM Sains Muar, was in town so a quick date was set. I first went to his (weekend's) house in Taman Nusajaya. The decision for the trip to Sungai Melayu [translate: Malay River] was actually made in the car while deciding where we should go for dinner. Born and bred in Johor Bahru but it was only my first time here and my friend from Kuala Lumpur had to be the tourist guide instead.

The place is situated by the mouth of the river, and I think it should be some kind of a fishing village before this, and still is.

There was this restaurant named Restoran Sri Pantai Asam Pedas, and based on the number of people dining in when we were there showed that this was a popular eating place,

THE VERDICT: Excellent "Stingray Asam Pedas" served and I don't mind coming back again. I must thank Mr. Abdul Razak for introducing to me this place now I can take other friends here when they come visiting.

For one thing, besides the good food, you could enjoy the view of the river and the mangrove swamps nearby on one side, and the contrasting view of skyscrapers and a developing city on the horizon on the other side.

We then ventured out a bit more in the Malay village just to see the panoramic view of Tebrau Straits and Singapore just across. Even though I would not be able to cross over to a foreign country, at least I had the chance to have a glance through the international border. Guess we will still have to wait for a long time to be able to travel abroad again.

We had to leave Sungai Melayu as it was already dusk and the sky had turned orange-ish. I am looking forward for another dinner date with my ex-classmate as he will still be around these few days.
