EXPLORING DON MUEANG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, BANGKOK

20th DECEMBER 2018 ~ This was my second time here. The first time was back in 2016 but I was on a transit trip from Kuala Lumpur to Chiang Rai. So this time I had more time to explore.

Don Mueang Airport was a busy place which connects people to other places, international and domestic. It is a huge place but I think KLIA2 is bigger than this place.

There is a praying room for traveling Muslims at the airport, apart from the numerous halal restaurants. [READ HERE]

It was a nice short stay before flying back home. I will never know when I will be at Don Mueang International Airport again but unexpected thing happens all the time.

MY BANGKOK GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - HALAL RESTAURANTS AT DON MUEANG AIRPORT

20th DECEMBER 2018 ~ Based on my research on the internet, there should be no problems of finding halal food at Don Meuang Airport in Bangkok. I found three halal outlets there but I chose the one that looked the least luxurious with the assumption that the prices would be lower. Furthermore, I read someone's review of Bangmad Restaurant before.

It was just a small place that could accommodate just a few people at one time. It reminded me of the restaurant in Japan where people had to sit on stools at long tables overlooking the wall.

I had a decent plate of rice and chicken, and iced Thai coffee (with milk). I could not remember how much I paid for it.

Bangmad Restaurant is located at the ground floor of the domestic terminal, opposite the "musolla" [Muslim's praying room]. Villa Halal is on the upper level of the international terminal and Au We White Coffee is also on the first floor of the building.

In a nutshell, you will never go hungry when you are in Don Mueang Airport.

MOVIE REVIEW - "DRAGON BLADE"

In conjunctions with the Chinese New Year celebration, I went to watch a Chinese movie with Jackie Chan in it as suggested by someone. When was the last time I watched a Chinese film? It was a very long time ago and Jackie Chan was also starring and it had to do with Shaolin Temple and stuff like that.

How was it? It was a very entertaining, with a lot of fighting scenes (what do you expect?) and I loved the soundtrack very much.

Another movie which tried to instill moral values but it is rated for adults 18 years old and above. Apart from the scenes of people killing each other, which I believe you have seen worse, it is still OK for teenagers to watch. At least, there are no swear words - unless the characters swore in Chinese and I did not understand.

SPOT THE ERROR - BANGKOK (2)

"beware of"

If you tell someone to beware of a person or thing, you are warning them that the person or thing is harming them or causing danger.

e.g.:
Beware of the dog. The dog might bite you.
Beware of the speed traps along the highway, unless you do not mind paying the traffic summons.

SATHORN SAINT VIEW HOTEL, BANGKOK

This was the hotel we were staying in throughout the trip for 4 nights. Sathorn Saint View Hotel was located a bit far from the city (actually I am not sure which part of Bangkok was the city centre) and this could be a criterion in choosing a cheaper hotel.

We managed to secure this room only on the second night. We were given a lousy room when we arrived (most probably because we checked in late). However since we were already asked to move to a better facility, so all was already forgiven.

This place was located in a Muslim neighbourhood so there was a mosque, a religious school and a Muslim cemetery nearby. The best part was halal food was in abundance but I managed to buy breakfast only once as were out early and went back late almost every day. It was also located near Surasak train station so moving around Bangkok was very easy.

before checking out

These are the street hawkers selling halal breakfast in the morning somewhere near the hotel.

you could eat barbecued chicken for breakfast

There are thousands of other hotels in Bangkok so you could choose one according to your budget. This one was suggested by one of the members of the Facebook group called Backpackers' Buddies  Malaysia (BBM) when I posted in the group page trying to get the information about accommodation in Bangkok.

SUVARNABHUMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, BANGKOK

I still remembered the first chapter of my form 1 history textbook. Long ago, the Malay Peninsular was known as Suvarnabhumi, or translated to English from Sanskrit would mean "The Gold Peninsular".

21st October 2014 - This is Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. The airport that looked like a garden as there were mini gardens with colourful and fresh orchids, and a museum for the gigantic statues all over the place.

just arrived

A praying room for Muslims is available in the airport so it is very convenient for Muslim travellers.

Unfortunately I could not find halal food at the food court so we had to settle for the mango with sticky rice and sandwiches. There was actually a Muslim restaurant somewhere selling briyani - I saw a poster about in the praying room after we had finished eating.

Our flight was delayed for 1 1/2 hours but a comfortable airport could ease the stress a bit, at least. However, credit should be given for the extra effort in making the place very Siamese, with all the fresh flowers and really big statues which had already become the attractions to the visitors, locals and foreigners alike.
