A LUNCH DATE WITH AN EX-STUDENT AT KFRY

When I met Mr. Muhammad Noor Adlan Azmi, an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, [READ HERE] a plan was made to meet up for coffee initially.

However, the meeting took place at KFry in Holiday Villa for a late lunch.

We still had coffee after than but we had to adjourn to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at KSL Mall which was just across the road.

Thanks Mr. Adlan for the 2-hour company. I have taken notes of all the updates reported to me. Hope to see you again when you are back in Johor Bahru, or perhaps I will see you in Kuala Lumpur.

BACK TO THE CINEMA AFTER MORE THAN TWO YEARS

8TH JULY 2022 ~ After more than two long years, I was back to the cinema. This time to watch a record-breaking Malay movie "Mat Kilau" at GSC theater in KSL Mall. Guess it was good to be back.

To my relief, there were not many people and the theater hall was not full. People went crazy last week, I supposed, trying to get in the queue to be the early ones to watch this movie, especially during the weekends.

So how did I find the movie? Everything was overdone, in my opinion. The fighting scenes, the sound effects, the camera techniques as well as the script and surprisingly, the level of violence. However, the quality of the film was far better than the rest of the usual, boring Malay movies and this movie should set a benchmark for our local filmmaking. Definitely a must see for people who like martial arts, Silat in particular - because the fighting just never ends.

MOVIE REVIEW - "HANTU KAK LIMAH"

29th AUGUST 2018 ~ Someone had to redeem his free movie tickets for his birthday month from MBO and we waited and finally we could watch the hit Malay movie "Hantu Kak Limah" at KSL City. Watching a Malay movie is something I don't really do but this one has received good reviews and become one of the box office movies of the year.

I could not remember when was the last time I had a real good laugh in the cinema and "Hantu Kak Limah" was one hilarious film. Once in a while, I am giving my support to the local film industry.

MY HOMETOWN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - COFFEE BEAN & TEA LEAF AT KSL

18th FEBRUARY 2018 ~ After the Korean lunch, we proceeded to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf located at KSL City Mall, just opposite Holiday Villa. The reasons: we wanted coffee and at the same time, a birthday cake to celebrate Ms. Nashuha's birthday. (When celebrating a birthday, a birthday cake is compulsory).

The irony of it all, the birthday girl did not like cake (WHAT?) so we had to eat the cake for her. A point to note, the Blackforest Cake here was very delicious - better than the ones I used to eat at other places I used to go for coffee.

an instant birthday present

That should wrap up my activities on the third day of the Chinese Lunar New Year school break.

Cheat day big time!

MOVIE REVIEW - "MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS"

When I cannot travel during the school holiday, I would have to find other source to entertain myself. This was one movie I managed to watch last week at MBO KSL Mall, and at the same time, I had to redeem the points accumulated from my member card. [READ: Free]

Adapted from the novel of the same title by Agatha Christie, this should be a drama when a Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, tried to solve a murder case on the train "The Orient Express" through deduction. There were many speaking scenes, which younger generation would not like but I found listening to the dialogues was really amusing as one had to get all the information (to solve the case) from all the interviews done.

For once, this was a movie I enjoyed watching without being distracted by all the CGI effects throughout. And there were big names starring, like Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Penelope Cruz. I am now thinking of getting the novel to read.

BOYS' NIGHT OUT SESSION

7th August 2014 ~ A few people were planning the outing session and fortunately, I did not have any guests coming for Eid in the evening. So it was a movie trip at KSL City and a very late supper (dinner for me) that followed suit. We could not hang out longer as I had to attend a formal meeting in school the next morning.

Thanks Huzaifah, Adam and Izzul - perhaps we could do this again later.

THURSDAY IS MEET-THE-FAN-SESSION DAY

SESSION #1

Thursday, 12th June ~ We had a plan to go for an outing and I had an urgent need to buy some things. There was a Member Card Sale at AEON Kulaijaya so we made our way there and managed to kill two birds with one stone. Surprisingly there were not many people at the mall but that should be good news. And this outing was in a way to bid goodbye to Mr. Syazwan who will be going away to continue his study at a polytechnic in Ipoh.

SESSION #2

The second session was much shorter. An old friend from college, Puan Anita Abdul Rahman, was here with her family for a holiday and I was always happy to meet my ex-UPM TESL coursemates when they were in town. We just met at the KSL Mall for coffee at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and managed to suggest a few eating places in Johor Bahru. I could not think of interesting places for them to go except JPO and Zoo Johor.

Thanks Anita for coming over to Johor (now I sound like a representative of Johor Tourism Department) and for the short chat.

After going international for quite some time, your favourite column: Spot the Error is now back spotting error in our own beloved country. This one is found outside a toilet in KSL City, JB.

MOVIE NIGHT AGAIN

Two ex-students, Syhmil and Hasbullah, suddenly wanted to have a meeting after disappearing for about two years on 20th December 2011. I would never say "no" if the time was right so we met a restaurant near my house.

The first meeting led to another one on 29th December but this time it was more elaborate - first, a movie at KSL City, followed by a (late) dinner after that. I was glad the plan could be executed and we could spend more time together.

Next time we should hang out longer, if only there is a next time. Anyway, thanks a lot Shymil and Hasbullah for initiating the outing and the fun time. I do hope to meet you all again soon.
