THE GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE THAT HAPPENED AT SARAWAK CULTURAL VILLAGE

6TH SEPTEMBER 2022  ~ After the long hours of walking and the excitement watching the cultural show, it was time for the gastronomic adventure at Sarawak Cultural Village. We had bought the ticket which included the lunch package at the cafe.

QUESTION: Was the lunch package worth the price paid?
ANSWER: Yes! There were varieties of Sarawak local dishes that I had never eaten before served on the table.

We had to wait for quite some time for the food to arrive. That was all I had to complain.

An unexpected reunion with a friend of UPM TESL class of 1993 happened at the cafe. Puan Salinah Shariff was also there with her husband and daughter and she texted me when we were in the auditorium after seeing my check-in posr on Facebook. The last time we met would be almost 30 years ago before graduating from university.

All in all, the visit to the Cultural Village was great. All the traditional houses and their hosts, the cultural show and the scrumptious feast during lunch should complete all the good things I have to sat about this place.

CAMBODIAN CULTURAL VILLAGE - PART ONE

12th MARCH 2016 ~ We were already on the road of Siem Reap 30 minutes after checking in at the hotel. Mr. Safy, our tuk tuk driver cum tour guide, took us to the Cambodian Cultural Village. The place was quite big and the weather was quite hot, much hotter than Malaysia - so walking around should not be a good thing to do at that time.

Other than looking around, other major activities here would be watching various cultural performances available. We were just at the right time to catch a show called "Charming of Phahum" at the (open) Mini Theatre.

Basically it was a dance drama which integrated both traditional and contemporary dances. From my interpretation, the story was about a couple who fell in love but the girl's parents were against the marriage plan as they had their own candidate.

Despite the fact there were many foreign tourists in the audience, everyone seemed to be entertained by the show. Music and dance knew no barriers.

And here is a short recording of one of the dances performed at the theatre.

BALI DAY 3 - GARUDA WISNU KENCANA

Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a cultural village for Bali. It had been added as one of the places to visit in our itinerary list, so we just followed.

We first stopped at the amphitheatre to watch a dance performance, which might have some similarities to the Barong Dance that we watched the day before. Even I spotted one of the dancers who looked like the person in the previous dance.

Then we went to this spot where we could see hills that were in the shape of cubes. Situated nearby were the two gigantic statues of Garuda the mystical bird and Wishnu, one of the Hindu gods.

The last section was the museum or gallery where there were exhibits of Balinese culture and religion. All in all, I think this place iss still new and it would be developed further for tourism in the future.
