THE ANNUAL CHINESE NEW YEAR GET TOGETHER WITH AN EX-STUDENT

The customary Chinese New Year get together with Mr. Ng Ching Kai, an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, took place at Seven Oaks Cafe in Taman Pelangi.

Thanks to Mr. Ng for spending the time even though he had such a short break this time and had to go back to Kuala Lumpur the next day.

While many ex-students have disappeared, at least there is this one student who is still loyal and hopefully, we can still continue with this tradition for many more years to come.

HOPPING INTO A 5-DAY BREAK OF THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT

Today was the last day of school and there will be a 5-day break in conjunction with the Chinese New Year. The students were happy, the teachers were happier.

A few Chinese students [of SMK Dato' Jaafar] were kind enough to give me oranges [after being prompted to do so]. Thanks to all the kind souls. May this year be filled with joy and prosperity.

THE FESTIVE MOOD IS ALREADY IN THE AIR

Today, an ex-colleague of SMK Mutiara Rini, came over to school to hand over a box of mandarin oranges from the Chinese friends of my former school. Guess friendship remains and never can end.

Thanks Mr. Lim Khim Yan for coming over from SMK Tan Sri Mohd. Rahmat to do the delivery. And thanks to all my Chinese ex-colleagues for the warm thought all these years. May this year bring more happiness and prosperity to all.

THE LAST WEDDING RECEPTION DURING THE CNY BREAK

This should be the last wedding reception attended during the CNY break, before school starts tomorrow. It was the wedding reception of the son of a colleague [of SMK Dato' Jaafar], Puan Jamaliah Shaharuddin, which was held at the Community Hall at Bandar Dato' Onn.

I was there with another colleague in the afternoon, and there were a few other friends met when we arrived. The more the merrier.

That should wrap up my Chinese New Year break activities this time: no travelling but just eating out throughout the week. I just miss the old life that I had.

THE ANNUAL CHINESE NEW YEAR GET TOGETHER SESSION CONTINUES

Mr. Ng Ching Kai, an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti [SPM batch 2012], is back in town for the Chinese New Year celebration. We decided to meet up for the annual get together which has been some sort of a tradition for us to keep ourselves updated of all the things that have happened throughout the year.

The venue chosen was Sunway Bigbox - the best place to meet if one is looking for a spot which not crowded. I was here last week at the same cafe - Hunz Cafe. I in fact ordered the same coffee and pie which I had had before - the not-so-adventurous side of me when it comes to eating.

Mr. Ng is currently working in Kuala Lumpur and will be going back after the one week break. Guess I will have to wait another year to see him again.

Thanks Ching Kai for the treat - but most importantly for the time spent. I appreciate his  kind gesture to make it a point to still meet up once a year - even after 10 years leaving the school. While many (ex-students) have already disappeared, at least there is still one who still reports his presence once a year.

ATTENDING A COLLEAGUE'S WEDDING RECEPTION IN PONTIAN

This was the second wedding attended in Pontian after the one I went to last December. Today was the wedding reception of a colleague of SMK Dato' Jaafar, Ms. Nur Farhana Mislan and the event was held at her family's house in Kayu Ara Pasong.

I was lucky as a colleague, Mr. Amirulhakim Mahfudz, was kind enough to give me a lift to the venue. There were a few other colleagues who had arrived earlier and were enjoying the food served.

We really loved the paratha that was still hot from the pan and it was soft and buttery.

Wishing Puan Farhana and her husband a happy and blessed life ahead that is filled with love and joy.

And I have two more wedding receptions to attend during the Chinese New Year break. 😀

EATING OUT BEFORE THE SCHOOL REOPENS AFTER THE CNY BREAK

It is the last day of the 5-day school break for the Chinese New Year. The biggest achievement for me during the holiday: to be able to eat out twice before school reopens.

This time, my late lunch consisted of huge burger and onion rings at Woodfire located at Taman Suria, which is near my house. Mr. Afif Farhan, an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, was my partner in crime this time.

It was great to get the chance to chat again after not being able to dine in. Hoping to get to see more people and more food outside after this.

GOING CHINESE FOR THE CNY WEEKEND

Most of the time, it was not easy to choose what to eat so I suggested we go Chinese, as it was a Chinese New Year weekend break. My ex-schoolmate agreed so we met at Mee Tarik Warisan Asli in Bandar Baru Uda, a restaurant which served halal Chinese food.

It was my first time eating the Curry Mee here but I wished the gravy could be thicker and there were more food items inside the bowl for me to fish while eating. However, the bowl was real big and the generous quantity of noodles could last me through dinner.

I love the Bao Bao Tea the most.

And we had dumplings for dessert. 😀😀

Now that people are allowed to dine in at restaurants, I guess there will be more gastronomic adventures to come - but by abiding all the SOP and choosing not a crowded eating place.
