PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION FOR PUTERI ISLAM MOVEMENT DISTRICT LEVEL

The Pergerakan Puteri Islam Johor Bahru District, a society for Muslim girls - something like Girl Guides, held some sort of a carnival of its members. One of the competitions was Public Speaking and I was there at SK Taman Tampoi Utama as a judge. For one thing, there were only women and girls everywhere, as if they had conquered planet Earth.

The girls had done well I must say and the winner will represent Johor Bahru district to the state level after this. Congratulations to everyone who had taken part.

After seven rounds of chess matches for each player, the team had actually done better than last year. And here are the results:

5th place: Nur Nasreen Suhaimi (Girls under 18 category)

4th place: Mogane Sri (Girls Under 18 category)

2nd place: Chuan Wen Yee (Girls under 18 category)

4th place: Jeethindra Kumar (Boys under 18 category)

Overall Champion for Boys Under 18 category

Four students will be representing the Johor Bahru team to the state level competition in two weeks time. Congratulations to everybody in the team for the success but there is still a lot of work to be done if we want to at least maintain the team's performance next year.

MSSD JOHOR BAHRU CHESS TOURNAMENT - DAY 0NE

The secondary school chess tournament for district level started today. This time, it was held at SK Tampoi Utama. As usual, SMK Taman Universiti is sending a full team of 24 players with six competitors in four different categories. The event for the first day ended at about 5:00 p.m. and will continue tomorrow.

With two more rounds to go, it is still too early to tell. Hopefully the players will manage to win individual games so as to contribute more points for the team. Not only they need the good luck, but they also need to think real hard. Go SMKTUN!

And I must remember to take more photos during the first round in the morning.
