VIDEO: WHERE DOES A GIRAFFE GET ITS DRINKING WATER FROM?

This was what we saw when we were in the Singapore Zoo - a giraffe drinking another giraffe's urine. Although it was not a pleasant sight, it sure had created curiosity for me to find out more. And I googled for information regarding the giraffe's strange behaviour. 

There is always something new to learn from the zoo.

And here's the answer found in Wikipedia: "Male giraffes assess female fertility by tasting the female's urine to detect estrus, in a multi-step process known as the Flehmen response." If you want to know more about giraffes, click HERE.

A DAY AT SINGAPORE ZOO - PART THREE

After the boat ride, we took another short break as everyone was obviously tired and hungry. There was this one spot called the Pavilion, something like a large gazebo, where people could sit and use the washrooms there.

As for the Muslim students, this could be the best place to perform our Zohor prayers - we had the whole place to our own, it was clean and the source of water was also near.

After the short rest, then we decided to get on the tram which was included in the package. We went to one other station and continued walking the last few hours of the visit.

We were lucky as we managed to catch the Elephant Show that started at 3:30 p.m. It was amazing how those gigantic creatures could understand and follow whatever instructions or stimuli given by the instructors in order to entertain the spectators.

 

Once the show ended, we walked very quickly to the gate. The bus should be there at 4:30 p.m. and we spent about 15 minutes at the souvenir shop before saying our goodbyes to our friends in the zoo. 

That was the end of the one day trip at the Singapore Zoo. I hope they had had a lot of fun spending their time and hopefully this would be the moment they would cherish after they have left school.

A DAY AT THE SINGAPORE ZOO - PART TWO

Once the sea lion had ended its performance, we quickly made our way to another animal show venue which required us to walk quite fast in order not to miss it. It turned out the show would be more suitable for younger kids but we still enjoyed ourselves, especially with the dance routine. :)

Animals that were trained in the show were more domestic like the guinea pigs, cats, dogs and birds. The dogs, for example, were saved from being put down at a SPCA centre (I supposed) but were adopted by the Zoo. I wish my cats could be trained like those at the Zoo. By the way, I had never expected to see these kinds of animals to be kept in the Zoo.

Then we decided to take the boat ride and while waiting for the boat to arrive, we took a short break. Afif Hakim brought along a birthday cake all the way from JB, with the cake went through the immigration scanner, so we could celebrate his birthday in the Zoo. How many of you have cut a cake in a zoo with your friends singing a special version of birthday song for you? I am sure this would be one of the most significant birthday celebrations Afif had ever had.

After the boat ride, we went straight to see another main attraction of the Zoo - the white tiger. Nevertheless, we were there at the wrong time as the tiger was sleeping and not giving any hint of waking up. And we just continued walking and observing the animals and taking photos.

A DAY AT THE SINGAPORE ZOO - PART ONE

19 students of 2KP1 started to gather in front of the school as early as 7:00 a.m. and the bus arrived half an hour later. Unfortunately for us, the traffic at the CIQ and Johor Causeway was real bad. To make matter worse, there were a lot of people queuing at the immigration and we only arrived at the Singapore Zoo by 10:00 a.m. - meaning that we had spent almost 2 1/2 hours on the road.

We managed to get the school trip package from the ticket counter and if you are wondering how much does it cost to enter the Zoo, each student is charged only SD$21.00, including the unlimited tram rides and one way boat ride, which was much cheaper than the usual fare. However, booking had to be done beforehand and you can do this via the phone or e-mail.

Being an experienced zoo visitor, the first place I had to take the students was the amphitheater as the first animal show should start at 10:30 a.m. We had to walk very quickly and could not stop to see the few animals which could be waiting for us. When we arrived there, there were still a lot of vacant seats and we managed to get the best spots. A few of the kids sat at in the first two rows which meant they were ready to be splashed wet with the water from the pool.

The sea lion show would be one of the main attractions of the zoo. The audience, both the young and the old, were truly entertained by the sea lion's intelligence but too bad, it lasted only for a short while.

SINGAPORE ZOO REVISITED

19 students of 2KP1 and I went to the Singapore Zoo today. It was a long and tiring day with all the 6 hours of walking non-stop but I am sure it would be one the unforgettable moments for many of them. I myself will not be elaborating more as I am getting very sleepy but at the same time, I still have things to be done for tomorrow. *OMG*
