MCO PROJECT - EXTREME OFFICE MAKEOVER [PART TWO]

After all the hard work and perseverance [exaggeration], the extreme makeover project during the MCO period has finally come to its end. I must say I am happy to have made the decision to embark on this life or death [another exaggeration] project and managed to complete it before school reopens next week.

The theme chosen for the makeover is: no fringes, no frills. Just have to keep it simple.

You may wonder why I chose pink for the wall paint as many always consider the colour as girlish. I, on the other hand, find pink to be soft but bright at the same time. And the most important thing, it could match and blend well with other colours when choosing furniture, curtain or other decorative items for the room.

The major process involved was actually uncluttering. I just had to throw away [READ: recycle] lots of printed papers dated as old as 15 years which should have been thrown away much earlier. Now I have all the cupboards and cabinets to transfer all my belongings into.

The pink wallpaper stuck on the cupboard was actually bought three years ago when I first tried to clean up the office (but failed).

My ultimate hope: the room will be neat and tidy for a long, long time, and that will require harder effort.

Now I will have to focus on other things in school.

MCO PROJECT - EXTREME OFFICE MAKEOVER [PART ONE]

One of the major projects done during the long school break because of the MCO [Movement Control Order] period was the [senior assistant's] office extreme makeover in school - i.e. SMK Dato' Jaafar. I would need the extra long hours to focus on my project and I just had to force myself to do it. It is now or never.

4th JUNE 2020

It started much earlier, the week before the Eid holiday, by getting rid of all the unnecessary accumulated items over the years. Uncluttering was not an easy thing to do - one just have to be strong mentally and physically. The papers were then sent to the recycling centre. After that, I managed to get the help of Mr. Syafiq Jaafar, one of the school staff, to help me paint the room as well as do other essential maintenance work. I decided to get rid of the blinds which had been collecting dust and surprisingly, the glass windows are actually tinted and allow a lot of light from outside into the room.

Two pieces of furniture were also sent to other room and consequently, the room was getting spacier.

The huge canteen table was also returned to its original place.

15th JUNE 2020

A new and smaller 4-seat dining table was brought in instead as it is important to have one, mostly for discussion sessions.

The office now is almost ready, but there is one more essential item that will complete the extreme office makeover project.

KOMTAR JOHOR BAHRU EXTREME MAKEOVER - PART ONE

Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak (KOMTAR) is one of the earliest shopping malls in Johor Bahru. A few years back, the mall was demolished and replaced by a brand new one which was opened last year. I finally managed to step foot into the place on the 22nd of February. Surprise! Surprise! It was totally different from what we used to have long time ago.

There are more high-end outlets and when I was there, I felt as if I was in Suria KLCC - the place where the rich shop and the not-so-rich only window shop. Even the restaurants look like expensive places for me to go.

I guess the targeted customers would be foreigners (READ: Singaporeans) who should have higher power of purchasing because of the high currency rate. Anyway, there is one extra place for me to take friends who come visiting Johor Bahru in the future.

MORE EXTREME MAKEOVER COMING SOON

My bookshelves were installed the day before yesterday.Another extreme makeover will be on the way in my effort to provide more storage space and get things more organized.

I will definitely need more time to do this. Too many things to do, too little time (and energy).

SCHOOL HOLIDAY EXTREME MAKEOVER

Too many things, too little space. Something had to be done, and with a few days left before school reopens, this should be just the right time.

So far, done with one thing but there are many others waiting. This is just the beginning. Pray that I  will have the energy and determination to get this task completed before the new school term starts.

EXTREME MAKEOVER - PART 1

It is not really a makeover, and it is not extreme. It is just a spring cleaning session that should have been done a long time ago. There were always reasons, for being too busy, especially towards the end of the schools holidays. Work piling up and there were deadlines that were waiting one after another so I guess I had valid excuses. So I had to pull up my sleeves to clear my room cum workstation cum entertainment station. Make hay while the sun shines, especially by next week I will be very busy again.

before - while waiting for my new cabinet to arrive

It is not easy to clean up. First, you have to decide between things which are good and which are not needed anymore. Second, you have to decide whether to throw or not to throw. I guess we always keep some things which we feel we like but actually we don't need them and in the end, these things are accumulating dust. It is amazing that no matter how frequent we clean up, there will still be rubbish and unwanted items. We humans do produce rubbish, and a lot of it.

while - the cabinet is here and the boxes are gone

The best way to get rid of things you want to throw away is by recycling. Remember to reduce, reuse and recycle. And do not be surprised that you can earn some amount of money by sending these items to a recycling centre, and that is the money that you will easily throw away if you don't recylce. The best way is send them straight to a recycling factory rather than to the old newspapers lorry because the person will offer a cheaper price.

after - hardwork that pays off

I spent quite some time to finish this extreme makeover (to exaggerate again). The question now is, how long will this room be in this condition? There are other extreme makeover projects for me, just hope I have the strength and the will to carry out this task.
