ALL IN A DAY'S WORK - PART 1

FAQ:
Now that you have already retired, what do you do at home?

ANSWER:
I attend court session for juvenile cases, usually one week in a month, and carry out my duty as the Court Counsel or Advisor for the Juvenile Court. I am appointed by Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat [TRANSLATE: Welfare Department] and I am paid allowance for attendance.

Most of the time, I have to be ready before 10:00 a.m. However, there will be time when we will only be called in the afternoon. Sometimes the waiting time is longer that the hearing session.

Today, we were asked to be at the court by 8:30 a.m., the earliest so far. Because of that, I had the time to get breakfast at Anjung Selera JOTIC, which is just beside the court building.

As I arrived early today, for the first time, I managed to park my car at the public car park beside the road, with a cheaper rate i.e. RM3.00 for 5 hours. I park at Tabung Haji building, like forever, and of course it is more expensive.

I found out the Teh Tarik here was expensive: RM3.00. The usual price is only RM2.00.

I was told that the Court Building will be returned to the State Government soon and next year, we will have to go to a new place in Iskandar Puteri. This news, nevertheless, is yet to be confirmed.

It is interesting to carry out my duty as I get to see new people and sit in a setting which is different from school, and witnessing all kinds of drama every time.

THE SHORT GATHERING AT KLIA BEFORE FLYING BACK HOME

My short trip to Subang Jaya/Kuala Selangor was about to end. A few friends [of UPM TESL class of 1993] and their family members were kind enough to meet me at Kuala Lumpur International Airport for lunch before my boarding time.

The first group to greet me were Mr. Ridwan A. Wahid and his family members. Mr. Ridwan and his wife had met and taken me to Shah Alam for breakfast in the morning and then it was lunch at the airport.

The chosen venue was the food court at the airport called Food Garden. The place was jam packed with people dining in on Sunday afternoon.

An hour later, another group arrived and this time it was Puan Hayati Ismail and her family. Mr. Faizam was the only one eating as Puan Hayati and her daughter had had their meal at a wedding reception before.

It was just a short gathering but we were still glad to be able to see each other again. I must be the lucky one to have friends who are always ready to entertain me when I am away from home.

HAVING MEE KARI AT PEKAN RABU IN ALOR SETAR

19TH DECEMBER 2024   ~ All the walking in Alor Setar made me hungry so I decided to check out the food court on the ground floor of Pekan Rabu.

There were many stalls selling different varieties of food you could choose here.

The menu at this stall caught my attention and I knew I had to try the Mee Kari [TRANSLATE: Curry Noodles].

I made a wise decision as the Mee Kari was delicious and reminded me of the noodles I used to have in school many years ago. What was not missing in the bowl were the cockles that would make the dish more flavourful. This was good enough and I already know what to eat I am to go back to Pekan Rabu again one day.

My gastronomic adventure in Kedah had just started.

THE TRANSIT IN PENANG SENTRAL FOR THE KEDAH/PERLIS TRIP

in the ferry

19th DECEMBER 2024    ~ I was back in Penang one more time, and there was another wedding reception to attend. This time, however, I intended to explore other places up north so I decided to stay in Alor Setar. To get there, I took a ferry from Pengkalan Weld on the island to Penang Sentral in Butterworth and boarded a bus later to Alor Setar.

I had been to Penang Sentral three of four times before but had the chance to explore the place this time.

There were a number of restaurants here and kiosks selling all kinds of items. It was a working day so there were not many people around.

I still had a lot of time to kill so I embarked on a gastronomic adventure in Penang Sentral. I managed to find a food court on the third floor of the building.

Unfortunately, many of the food stalls there were not operating that morning so there was not much choice.

My lunch consisted of rice, chicken curry and vegetable. Too bad the chicken was undercooked. Thank God I could enjoy the view of the ocean and the Penang Bridge that bright sunny morning.

THE MEET UP IN CONJUNCTION WITH MOTHER'S DAY

Three ex-Jaafarians met up to celebrate Mother's Day - except no mothers were there. The venue chosen was Medan Selera Rahmat [TRANSLATE: Food Court] in Bandar Baru Uda. I just got to know the existence of this place this evening.

This should be a supper date but eventually it turned out to be dinner for us.

Two hours spent eating and chatting did not seem to be enough and we surely need more gathering like this soon. Thanks to Mr. Abd. Rahman and Mr. Noor Rahilme, ex-colleagues of SMK Dato' Jaafar, for the short chat session. We will have to wait for someone to come home during his semester break for other outing session soon.
