'TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY - TRALALA LALA LALA LALA...

When someone suddenly announced (saw his photo on FB actually) that he is already back home from the UK (has been here for 2 weeks already), it was time to celebrate - the usual way. Another last minute decision was made to go and enjoy the hi-tea/lunch at Mutiara Hotel. I used to bring the Angklung Group here for the annual lunch thingy but we do not do it this year, but that is another (long) story.

It was a Christmas public holiday so the food was Christmas-themed. The main dish was the (grilled I think) turkey which was almost finished when we arrived at 1.00 p.m.

There was a special appearance by a trio band who sang and played live music from table to table. They sounded really harmonized and sang Christmas songs, oldies and even Ed Sheeran's "Perfect". I recorded a video on my tablet but could not download it here as the file is too large. I managed to find a website the enabled me to compress large video files and here is the live singing in the coffee house.

'Tis the season to be jolly. We had a jolly time eating no doubt and I am officially fat. Thanks Mr. Syazwan Shavarein [SMKTUN SPM batch 2013] for the time and company. Hope to meet up for another gastronomic adventure before you go back in January.

ANGKLUNG GROUP'S ANNUAL HI-TEA GATHERING AT MUTIARA HOTEL

3rd NOVEMBER 2018 ~ The annual hi-tea gathering for SMK Taman Universiti's Angklung Group was held again at Mutiara Hotel, Johor Bahru. By this time, the two groups: the seniors which consisted of the form 3 and 5 students, and the juniors which comprised of form 2 students, were ready to merge as a team.

As usual, there was no specific agenda for the gathering except to eat as much as we could from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m.

At the same time, it was the moment to bid farewell to the form 5 students who would be leaving school by the end of this year. They had been in the group since they were in form 2 but all good things must come to an end.

I am not sure of what is going to happen after this but we did not get many invitations to perform this year which is quite sad as we have been practising all year round. I guess more effort has to be put to promote the group and the most important thing is, the music must play on.

MY HOMETOWN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - GOING CHINESE FOR LUNCH

27th AUGUST 2018 ~ After the workshop session at SMK Mutiara Rini, the English teachers (who happened to be my ex-colleagues) and I, decided to eat out instead of the usual canteen food.

We headed to Mee Tarik Warisan Asli restaurant in Mydin Taman Mutiara Rini, going Chinese for lunch. I was glad we chose this place as a few of them had never tried the food here. I had had the famous beef noodles before at other branches though.

It was good to meet some familiar faces and do some catching up. It is not easy to set up a gathering even though there are plans to do so, and this should be considered a success. Guess we all enjoyed both the food and the company. We should do this again some other time.

SMKTUN'S ANGKLUNG GROUP'S ANNUAL HI-TEA GATHERING 2017

21st OCTOBER 2017 ~ The annual hi-tea gathering for SMK Taman Universiti's group was finally done. The venue was none other than our favourite eating place: Mutiara Hotel Johor Bahru. We arrived there at about 12:15 p.m. and left the coffee house at 3:00 p.m.

the fifth-former last angklung hi-tea

One might just see this as an activity which involved eating lavishly in style but there should be some hidden agenda behind all this. One thing for sure, this should on of the memorable school events for them once they leave school.

A HI-TEA GATHERING FOR THE RETIRED PUAN SABARIAH ZAINUDDIN

29TH APRIL 2017 ~ Puan Sabariah Zainuddin has already stayed home after her official retirement day two months ago but it was never too late to celebrate. A few friends from SMK Taman Universiti gathered (again) at Mutiara Hotel for a hi-tea session specially dedicated for Puan Sabariah.

There was a birthday celebration by held a big group near us and the cake was then pushed in right beside our tables. We happily joined in the celebration and were then given a piece of the cake each.

There was an ex-student of SMKTUN attending a function at the same place, Mr. Lim Kim Siong [from SPM batch 2009 maybe], an active member of the school's Chess Club. By the way, the man celebrating the birthday is actually his boss.

We stayed there for more than three hours and had to part ways after that. We all wished Puan Sabariah a very happy retirement and hopefully this meeting was not the last one for everybody.
