HOTEL REVIEW: GRAND ALORA HOTEL, ALOR SETAR, KEDAH

The venue for the 2-day symposium [READ HERE] attended in Alor Setar, Kedah, from 21st-22nd April, 2025, was The Grand Alora Hotel. I was told that this was one new and expensive hotel in the city.

My first impression: the hotel was new alright - the lobby floor was clean and shiny.

My room [shared with another participant] was spacious and commendable. The only comment: the lights were to dimmed and not everyone would fancy to be in the honeymoon vibe throughout his/her stay.

One thing I liked about this place was the weighing machine that could be found in the bathroom. For once I became a health conscious traveler, even though eating would be one of the main agendas.

We had the chance to dine in for breakfast at the hotel's cafe named Lengkuas. Unfortunately, from the point of view of someone who was not that fussy about food, the tastes of the food was below average. Perhaps my expectation was higher when it came to hotel food.

I was glad to have the opportunity to stay there for one night. It was a bit away from the city centre so people without their own transport like me might opt out for other places when in they are in Alor Setar.

HOTEL REVIEW: THE JERAI HOTEL, ALOR SETAR

After the symposium at Grand Alora Hotel [READ HERE], I decided to move to another hotel in the heart of Alor Setar city, the Jerai Hotel for one night on 22nd April 2025 . A friend actually recommended me this place.

This was an old hotel but everything was clean and well taken care of.

The room was not spacious though, and this should not be an issue for a solo traveller like me.

The views from my room window.

My booking came together with breakfast, It was decent enough but most importantly, everything was tasty.

The best feature of this hotel was its strategic location. Pekan Rabu where people go to shop was just behind the building. Other attractions like the Mosque, the Royal Museum and Art Gallery were just within walking distance. I would consider returning to this place again if I were to go back to Alor Setar one day.
