MY MEDAN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - THE "NASI PADANG" IN PARAPAT

31st JANUARY 2017 ~ Before leaving Lake Toba, we had lunch first at Parapat as it would be another long journey to Berastagi. We were taken to another Nasi Padang restaurant named "Rumah Makan Muslim Nikmat". This time, we were allowed to straightaway choose the dishes we wanted to eat from the food counter. That should be much more economical and was a great relief.

The eating places in the small town were clean so that should be good news to foreigners visiting the place especially.

MY MEDAN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - NASI PADANG AT PANORAMA RESTAURANT

30th JANUARY 2017 ~ One of the must-do things when in Indonesia was to eat its popular Nasi Padang [translate: Padang Rice]. I think this food originated from Padang, another city in Indonesia, hence the name. You would have to eat your rice with variety of dishes put on the dining table for you to choose. You will be charged according to the dish taken from the plate. If there are 3 pieces of chicken in the plate and you take only a piece, you will still have to pay for all the three pieces. So make sure you finish everything once a type of dish from a plate is taken.

We stopped for lunch (as suggested by the driver cum guide) at this eating place called Panorama Restaurant located at a place called Pematang Siantar, on the way from the city to Parapat. I would choose the sate [barbecued meat on sticks] as the dish to die for.

We had more Nasi Padang after this, but we were allowed to choose the dishes from the food counter. That would be much cheaper as we had limited food choice in our plates.

MY BANDUNG GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - MITRA SEDERHANA PASTEUR RESTAURANT

No, we did not go to a farm for dinner. It was just another "nasi padang" restaurant in Bandung where rice was served with plates and plates of dishes.

This was actually the first restaurant visited when I first arrived in Bandung two years ago. This restaurant was also significant as it offered free wi-fi with very good connection, which should tourists who rely on free wi-fi very happy. :)

jackfruit in coconut milk gravy

We were happy with our very first meal in Bandung.

We were not fussy eaters. :)

ARRIVING IN JAKARTA - PART ONE

14th September 2014 ~ It was just like a dream came true - to land in Jakarta with 11 students and 3 teachers. It was only just a suggestion of one of the possible activities for Angklung Group members at first. It had become possible with the support given by parents to spend some money for the trip as well as their trust to let the children go away for a few days to another country.

These are the sequence of events that took place on the first day:

07:00 Boarded Yoyo Express Bus from Taman Tun Aminah Terminal, Johor Bahru.
10:30 Arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
13:20 Checked in.
16:20 KLM flight took off.
17:30 Landed in Jakarta, met our driver cum guide at a designated area outside Soeharto-Hatta International Airport.

the monopod had been used to the fullest throughout our trip
What happened after that, I could not really remember the exact time. We were then taken for our first meal in Jakarta at a "Nasi Padang" restaurant, after going through the traffic jam, which happened all the time here.

Right after dinner, we all hopped into the van again and were driven to visit our first spot in Jakarta.
