CLIMBING UP MOUNT PHOUSI IN LUANG PRABANG [PART TWO]

4th DECEMBER 2016 ~ It is fascinating to know that watching the sunset is one of the favourite activities among tourists. It is a way for you to appreciate nature, just by looking at the blue sky and the clouds, the green mountains far away and the beautiful sun; and that should bring you closer to the Creator.

By the time we reached the top, there were already a crowd of tourists (mostly) gathered at all the possible spaces that could be occupied. Some people were already located at strategic spots so as to get the best view for the sunset. It was a zoo out there so if you are imagining a serene moment when you could be one with nature, that is not going to happen.

I think I could become rich if I sell bottled mineral water here.

I just decided to stay there under the stupa of the temple to watch the awesome view. However, it was quite impossible not to get people's heads or hands with phones/cameras raised high in the air. I think I should be happy with what I managed to capture with my humble compact camera.

or the beauty of the moon,
my soul expands in the worship
of the Creator."

When the surrounding got darker, then only people started moving down the hill to get back to other touristy activities.

This was the temple area that we saw on our way back.

And this was the other entrance/exit that could be used to go up/down the hill.

That should conclude our daytime exploration on the first day in Luang Prabang. Of course I felt very tired (but happy). I must say we did quite a lot after we had arrived in the morning despite the loosely planned schedule.

CLIMBING UP MOUNT PHOUSI IN LUANG PRABANG [PART ONE]

4th DECEMBER 2016 ~ This is one must-do thing when you are in Luang Prabang: climbing Mount Phousi which is located at the town centre. So why should you do it: (1) Basically it is a must-do itinerary, so you have to jump into the bandwagon and join the joyful ride. (2) It is THAT one time you could observe the sunset - with hundreds of strangers from all around the world. (3) The top of Mount Phousi will give you a bird's eye view of Luang Prabang town. (4) You think you need some kind of exercise when you are actually have made one of the biggest mistakes of your life trying to reach the top :)

There are two entrances that lead you to the way up. We used the one opposite the National Museum, on the main road. To get to the top, you have to buy a ticket which costs you 20 000 Kip. There is this temple by the name of Wat Chomsi. So how high is Mount Phousi actually? It is just 150 metres so that does not really qualify it as a mountain actually but I am still panting, when I remember the moment I had to be there by walking hundreds of steps (with my two other female friends).

Please read about the legend behind this famous Mount Phousi from the signboard found at one spot.

I had similar experience when I was in Krabi and Chiang Mai, Thailand where Buddhist temples are built on top of a hill and have become the attractions to tourists.

BLOGGING FROM LUANG PRABANG, LAOS

For the school holiday this time, I am now on a short vacation with 2 friends who are my ex-coursemates from UPM TESL group, Puan Maslinda Mohamad Dahalan and Puan Siti Rohani Awang. We decided to visit Luang Prabang, Laos - not yet a popular holiday among Malaysians. The decision was made about 2 months beforehand and we safely landed at Luang Prabang International Airport on Sunday,4th December, 2016.

So far, we are enjoying ourselves a lot in the calm and relaxed city of Luang Prabang and everything seems to be alright, despite the minimum planning done. We have one more day to see what this place has to offer. Don't forget to visit my blog soon for more stories and photos.
