IKAN CELUP TEPUNG [ICT] HUJUNG TANJUNG IN TANJUNG LUMPUR REVISITED

14th SEPTEMBER 2025   ~ After the feasts at the solemnization ceremony in Damansara in the morning [READ HERE] and the wedding reception in Kuantan after that in the afternoon [READ HERE], we still went on our gastronomic adventure.

Mr. Ridwan A. Wahid and Puan Suhaila Sulong, wanted to get their favourite Ikan Celup Tepung [Fried Flour Coated Fish] and Squid so we revisited ICT Hujung Tanjung in Tanjung Lumpur. The first time I came here was 29th June 2024 [READ HERE].

When we arrived at about 6:00 p.m., the place was already jam packed with diners. We were lucky to secure a seat without having to wait for people to finish eating and move away. It was raining cats and dogs while we were waiting for the order to be ready, so people were stuck in the dining area.

The rain then stopped and the craving for ICT was sated, so it was time to get back to the hotel.

We actually stopped by at a Kuantan City Mall in the city, and that was when I met Puan Siti Bahriah Sarbini, an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, and her husband. It's a small world after all.

My gastronomic adventure in Kuantan had not ended yet - there were still many more series to go.

HAVING TEA IN TANJUNG LUMPUR LIKE EAST COAST PEOPLE

29TH JUNE 2024    ~ Mr. Ridwan Wahid, a friend of UPM TESL Class of 1993, and his family were also in Kuantan attending the same wedding reception. He was asking me out with them to have tea, East Coast style at Tanjung Lumpur.

It was the place I had gone earlier in the morning with another TESL friend but at that time, it was empty and looked abandoned. However, it was totally a different scenario in the afternoon. The dining area was packed with customers so "Celup Tepung Hujung Tanjung" should be a popular destination in Kuantan among gastronomers.

The specialty of this place: Celup Tepung - seafood like fish, prawns and squid covered in flour and deep fried. Could be high in cholesterol but the taste was heavenly.

Thanks to Mr. Ridwan and family for including me in their gastronomic adventure in Kuantan which was not in my original itinerary list.

EXPLORING KUANTAN IN THE MORNING: TANJUNG LUMPUR

29th JUNE 2024    ~ After the breakfast of Nasi Dagang, we ventured out a bit and went to see what Tanjung Lumpur [TRANSLATE: Mud Cape] had to offer in the morning.

It was a small, traditional fishing village in Kuantan. When we were there, no fishermen could be seen. There were just a few people who could be anglers at one spot.

The sun was shining brightly and the sky was blue, hence we took some photos before going to one more spot on the other side of the cape.

THE BREAKFAST SESSION IN KUANTAN: NASI DAGANG POK GEE

29th JUNE 2024    ~ A friend of UPM TESL Class of 1993, Puan Siti Rohani Awang, and her husband were also staying at the same hotel in Kuantan. They were kind enough to let me join them for breakfast on my third day there.

Another friend who is a local suggested the place for breakfast the evening before. We successfully found Nasi Dagang Tok Gee in Tanjung Lumpur area.

Nasi Dagang seemed to be the specialty of this place, so I had one for my morning meal. I am not a Nasi Dagang expert and I had nothing to comment or complain about the taste.

The gastronomic adventure of the day started early in Kuantan and this was still not the end.
