BOYS' DAY OUT FOR A MOVIE MATINEE - "MICHAEL"

I am glad I finally managed to watch "Michael" on the big screen. I successfully dragged Mr. Solihin Ramli to the matinee show and I think he enjoyed the film as much as me. The last movie we watched together was Papa Zola, a local animation film, last year at the same venue in Mid Valley Mall. [READ HERE]

There were just the two of us when we entered the hall. I felt rich, having the whole theatre to myself that afternoon, but the feeling did not last that long.

Fond memories of secondary school came flooding back while watching the life of Michael Jackson. The superstar I grew up with, with his songs I started to listen when I was in secondary school at the age of 13 years old. I just felt like singing along to all the hit music but that would cause disturbance to the audience.

The outing trip ended with a light lunch and Mr. Solihin was introduced to my favourite Tuna Sandwich at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaves. We might see each other again for another movie viewing session, time unknown.

Please make sure you go and watch "Michael". You will not only learn about his life, but you are about to experience his live concerts that were so real.

BOYS' MOVIE DAY OUT

29TH DECEMBER 2025    ~ The last time I watched a movie was like 3 years ago [READ HERE]. Today, I went back to the movie theatre to watch Papa Zola, with the same person, Mr. Solihin Ramli.

The chosen cineplex was at Midvalley Southkey. Thank God the hall was only filled with 75% of parents and kids on school holiday. As expected, Malaysian animation movie was something worth the time and effort watching in a real movie theatre.

The outing was concluded by having lunch at Nando's restaurant in the mall.

Thanks to Mr. Solihin for the time and company, and the last minute plan worked well this time.

BOYS' DAY OUT

I had not had the time to pamper myself for a movie treat as fasting and Eid months had made me too occupied. However, today I managed to get away from all the busy routines, even though things did not go well as we had planned earlier. I should have left school at 2:00 p.m. but the event only finished by 3.30 p.m. I drove to AEON Bukit Indah and the traffic was clear, and reached there 20 minutes later. We almost missed the screening of the movie as the time was not that suitable - or we would have to perform our Maghrib prayers.

We still chose the 5:15 p.m. slot and managed to go for our prayer once the movie ended. We even had had our coffee before and dinner right after the show.

Thanks Mr. Hamzah Hamdan [SMKTUN alumni SPM batch 2006] for the time and company. We (note the pronoun "we") still have one more set of movie tickets to redeem soon.

BOYS' DAY OUT ONE SATURDAY AFTERNOON

31st MARCH 2018 ~ There are days on weekends when I am free and have to go out or I will just sleep in the afternoon at home. So an outing was set at AEON Bukit Indah with Mr. Mohd. Nazafee, ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti from SPM batch 2017, to watch a movie and then go for a late lunch at Kenny Roger's Roasters.

Thanks Nazafee for the time and company. I just wonder how many more outings can be done with him after this. Will he also disappear just like other people? That I have to wait and see.

BOYS' DAY OUT

A date was finally set with Mr. Amirul Husni [SMKTUN's SPM batch 2010] for an outing trip after all the lengthy planning. So we decided to go to Aeon Tebrau City as it is near to my house. Basically what we did were:

(1) watch a movie.

(2) ate dinner at Chicken Rice Shop.
(3) walked around the shopping mall.
(4) went to buy a few things at Aeon Shopping Centre.

Only my second time here and I must confess the chicken rice was really tasty. I don't mind going again.

I even met an old schoolmate from SMS Muar at the restaurant. We had not met since we left school so that must have been 30 years ago.

(5) To conclude the meeting, we had coffee at McD's McCafe at Setia Tropika.

Thanks Mr. Husni for the time and the company. Let's do this again some other time, soon.

GOOD COFFEE (AND CAKES) FIRST, A GOOD MOVIE LATER

21st November 2016 ~ After all the eating sessions, I had something lighter this afternoon - coffee and cakes, at Secret Recipe. Once in a blue moon, I would get lucky when an ex-student asked me out for a movie so we decided to meet up at AEON Bukit Indah after school. Why I chose Secret Recipe for coffee? Because on weekdays, there is this offer where you can get free coffee with any slice of cake ordered.

Mr. Hamzah Hamdan just started his term break and he had a pair of free movie tickets. What made it more exciting, the movie would be shown in a beanie cineplex. I was truly excited to find out about this movie theatre and I accepted the invitation though I hesitated at first as it was done last minute.

We watched a movie entitled "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", another adaptation from the J.K. Rowling's novel and related to the Harry Potter series.

The beanie movie theatre should look like this actually but in the photo we appeared to be in the heart of darkness.

So how was my first beanie movie experience like? I would definitely not go into this beanie thing again unless I get someone to pay for my ticket. I had to refrain from dozing off to sleep at the early part of the film. With that position and in a room with a very low temperature, I could easily drifted off into a world of my own. I don't think the beanie sofa would be good for my back. The large beanie pillow was not that comfortable. I love my own pillows at home much, much more.

Thanks Mr. Hamzah for the time and company, and not forgetting the beanie experience. And thank Miss Hamidah [the sister] for the movie ticket.

MOVIE REVIEW - "KUNGFU PANDA 3"

The second sequel to the first Kungfu Panda movie. Definitely a must-watch for me after having watched the first and second ones many years ago.

This time, Po was on a mission to fight the evil Kai - after being reunited with his real father and other pandas. And the whole village of pandas worked together to bring back justice to planet earth.

Let's pray hard there will be another sequel to Kungfu Panda so we could see Po and friends in action,

That should conclude the school mid-term break on a happy note.

MOVIE REVIEW - "GOOSEBUMPS"

Two boys, Zach and Chump/Champ, trespassed into Hannah's house to save her from her wicked father, R.L. Stine, only to release all the scary creatures that jumped out from the books and came alive. Mr. Stine was the writer of Goosebumps series and now they had to get all the creatures back into the book in order to stop further destruction done to the town. You got to see all the monsters, ghosts, invisible man, dwarfs, giant praying mantis, zombies, aliens, etc.

Anyway, I found the movie was rather humourous than scary, and I did not get any goosebumps unfortunately. It would be good for viewers of any age - a very entertaining movie, indeed.

MOVIE REVIEW - "HITMAN AGENT 47"

This movie was made based on the Hitman video game series. The movie is very violent in nature, definitely not suitable for people underage but I am sure you people just don't care. The characters in the movie showed that killing could be easily done - without feelings. And sometimes they were invincible. They were all like robots in  a way as they were already programmed to kill each other. I just wonder is the video game as violent as the movie.

MEETING ANOTHER EX-STUDENT AFTER SCHOOL

20th MAY 2015 ~ A date was set with an ex-student of SMKTUN, Mr. Afham Shah, who was once an active member of Kadet Bomba and Angklung Group, after more than 3 years not seeing each other. It was just a movie marathon and a late lunch/early dinner session at Aeon Bukit Indah.

We definitely need more time to gossip (minus the time spent in the movie theatres) so hopefully there is a sequel to this meeting.

MOVIE REVIEW - "INTO THE WOODS"

This is one movie in which fairy tale characters are put to act in one film. It must be cheaper to do it that way. Other than the wicked witch that is always present in most of the fairy tales, you would find Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack (and the Beanstalk). In this story, the plot has been modified in a way that the characters are at some points, will relate to each other. This is a Disney's musical production, but it is not as enjoyable as the animation movies that I have watched before. The theme is a bit too heavy for kids and towards the end, it has become a bit too philosophical. Unlike the "Shrek" series, which also featured many fairy tale characters in their sequels, they are more entertaining. Anyway, Meryl Streep, who is playing the role of the with has been nominated for best actress in the upcoming Academy Awards.

It was a very fruitful destress session for me. I finally managed to go on an outing after all the hard work before school reopened up until now. And lucky enough someone is back for his semester break for company. We need to this again real soon.

MOVIE REVIEW - "NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB"

Why you must go and watch this movie: (1) It was hilarious, you would laugh from the very beginning until the end; (2) All the characters in the previous "Night at the Museum" series were making a comeback.I know you miss them so much. (3) You could see Robin Williams on the screen again (I thought that was someone else, like a stand up actor but it was him).

This is definitely the movie you should watch before school reopens next week.

MOVIE REVIEW - "THE ONE-HUNDRED FOOT JOURNEY"

5th September 2014 ~ It was movie time again. After supper, we all sped off to TGV Tebrau to watch "The One-Hundred Foot Journey" starring mostly unknown actors and actresses. It tells the story of a family which migrated from India to London and the to France to start a restaurant. The conflict is when their new launched Indian eatery was located just opposite of a French high-class restaurant - just a hundred feet away, hence the drama began.

It was a love story between Hassan and Marguerite, both characters who had dreams to become well-known chefs; a business rivalry between Mr. Kadam and Madame Mallory which later turned into friendship (or love perhaps). If you are looking for a movie which does not require a lot of thinking, or which does not have any deafening and blinding sound and visual effects, this is it.

I might get the book from which the movie was adapted after this. And when was the last time I read a book? *sigh*

BOYS' DAY OUT

29th August ~ Someone came back for his short semester break so it was a good time to meet up and hang out. It was just a movie session followed by dinner at my favourite food court, and obviously I had made a good choice. So thanks Mr. Muhammad Faiz for the short rendezvous and made me not so sad for a short while. Hope to see you again some other time. Let's plan earlier for a more extensive outing trip.
