SATURDAY IS EVENT LAUNCHING DAY

Selected teachers from schools in Johor Bahru District were chosen (read: instructed) to attend the launching event of a programme early Saturday morning in front of the City Hall at the heart of the city.

There were stalls and booths, and they were many people whom were teachers who had no choice but had to be there.

We witnessed the launching event but then decided to go and get breakfast at a restaurant nearby. There were also many other activities available as at the same time, the car free day was also for the city was also carried out at the very spot.

The good thing is that I had the chance to sit down and talk with my colleagues from school over "roti cana" (paratha) and "teh tarik" (milk tea with bubbles). I seldom have the chance to do that in school nowadays as things that need to be done seem to be endless. Just hope there is no similar event for us to attend again on Saturday morning.

WALKING ALONG CIHAMPELAS STREET IN BANDUNG

16th September 2016 ~ On the last night in Bandung, we took a stroll along the famous Cihampelas Street, trying to see what it had to offer. I could simply divide this street into two, the old street and the modern mall.

Along the old street, there were small stalls selling items tourists would buy, like t-shirts. There were also factory outlets and expensive hotels as well as restaurants. It was something like a night market but in a smaller scale. Perhaps the place could be more lively on weekends.

We managed to get a few t-shirts from there but I think you could hone your bargaining skills for better prices here.

JOGJA SHOPPING TIME - JOGYA T-SHIRT

When we told Pak Rustam, our guide cum driver, we wanted to buy t-shirts to bring home, he took us to this one shop named "Jogya T-Shirt". There were not only a wide range of shirts to buy, but there were also other kinds of merchandise such as batik products.

There was a waiting area (most probably) for men while the women were busy shopping and queuing up at the counter. There was also free mineral water.

The biggest t-shirt in Indonesia for customers to see.

No doubt you could buy cheaper shirts in a more touristy place like Malioboro Street. Nevertheless, I think this place sold better quality and more reliable t-shirts with the exact sizes you wanted. I had had some bad experiences getting S-sized shirts even though the labels were clearly printed with XL.
