ANOTHER DINNER DATE WITH A TESL FRIEND [AND HER HUSBAND]

28TH FEBRUARY 2024 ~ A dinner date was proposed with Puan Maslinda Mohd. Dahalan and her husband when they were in town. The chosen venue this time was Md. Aris Yong Tau Fu located in Kampung Melayu.

This should be the place to get Yong Tau Fu in Johor Bahru, and this food is served differently from the variety found in Kuala Lumpur or northern states. It comes with soup and not just sauce. Puan Maslinda then wanted to get Muratabak to complement the dinner we had had so we went to a food court nearby.

Guess this should be our supper. So we had Murtabak and I suggested my friend to try the popular ABC [Air Batu Campur] of this place.

This is not the end. There would be one more episode of my gastronomic adventure with my TESL friend the very next day.

MY KULIM GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - BREAKFAST AT NORLAILA NASI KERABU

23rd FEBRUARY 2024    ~ I was already out of the hotel building by 7:30 a.m., wandering and looking for a place to get breakfast. Kulim seemed not to be awaken yet at that hour as I could be the only person walking on the road that morning.

At the end of the row of shophouses near the hotel, I spotted a restaurant which was already opened. I even asked the ladies there whether I could already eat and I was the first customer of the day.

The restaurant served delicacies of the East Coast so basically one would have to take heavy breakfast here.

I had my bright blue rice, Nasi Kerabu, and was ready to start the day.

WATCHING A MUSIC CONCERT AT RTM AUDITORIUM

14TH FEBRUARY 2024 ~ Mr. Muhammad Ariff Mohd. Nizam [an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti] offered me to watch a concert at RTM Auditorium and of course I agreed. The concert was held in conjunction with 40th World Radio Day.

There were a list of singers of all ages and music genres performing, a few I knew and a few others I did not.

My choice of the best performer of the night was Tam Spider. He could sing and entertain people with his amazing vocal effortlessly.

The diva of the show was Aina Abdul. She had great vocal no doubt but her song and performance was not my cup of tea. I wished she did not have to flaunt all the high pitches in the songs she sang. Or perhaps she should try and sing something more pleasant to the ears without the notes that go high to the sky.

Another star of the night was Sufian Suhaimi a.k.a Baby Pian. Unfortunately, he did not shine that night and I don't think he had performed his best for his fans. In fact I enjoyed other singers more, like Jefridin, Akim and Ani Mayuni.

Here is the recording of the concert for you to enjoy on Youtube.

All in all, it was a great live show and I enjoyed myself tremendously. I got to thank Mr. Ariff for asking me to watch the concert with him and his other friends.

MY KULIM GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - ABANG E CAPATI

22nd FEBRUARY 2024   ~ My Kulim gastronomic adventure started in the evening upon arrival for dinner. I was taken to this place called Abang E Capati which should be a popular eating spot in town.

What made the Chapati here popular? Because of the thick, delicious gravy which came with different choices such as beef, chicken and sardine.

I had two pieces of Roti Bom which was thin and crispy, but still hungry so ordered the Chicken Rice.

Dinner was a good start for more gastronomic adventure for a few more days to come.

ATTENDING A WEDDING RECEPTION IN PENANG

24TH FEBRUARY 2024    ~ It was Puan Mawarni Mustafa's turn to host the wedding reception for her daughter. A few friends of UPM TESL Class of 1993 [and their spouses/kid] from all over the country gathered at Bizmilla Wedding Centre in Batu Kawan, Penang.

The reception was held in the evening and my three other friends and I were the early birds.

Then more and more friends made their way into the hall and another mini reunion for the TESL clan took place.

I met my Budiman ex-classmate of SMS Muar, Mr. Ahmad Fadillah Md. Aris with his wife there. His wife and the mother of the bride teach in the same Matriculation College in Penang.

That was another wedding reception and a reunion session with the TESL friends happening up north. I wonder if there are more receptions from this group to attend this year.
