A FAREWELL GATHERING FOR THE JOHOR STATE EDUCATION DIRECTOR

A professional dialogue session with the Johor State Education Director cum a farewell gathering for his upcoming retirement was held by the Johor Bahru District Education Office (PPDJB) today at Trove Hotel. We had to pay on our own to attend (or rather, asked to attend) this session, if you are wondering if it was free.

Many of us were already there before 11:00 a.m. but we started to eat lunch after 2:00 p.m.

NOTE TO SELF: For my retirement gathering (if there is any), my speech will be very, very short. Oh, I don't have a lot of things to share anyway.

*FOOTNOTE: Trove Hotel was known as Selesa Hotel before this. I guess there is a new management taking over the premise.

ENGLISH WORKSHOP FOR FORM 3 STUDENTS OF SMK PASIR PUTIH

Friday, 22nd August 2014 ~ This workshop had been planned much earlier with the teacher from SMK Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang, so I could not simply cancel it even though I wish I could. In fact, when I get myself occupied, I would not feel sad.

My session started at 8:00 p.m. and ended at 10:00 p.m. The workshop was held at Selesa Hotel, Pasir Gudang, and the students would be spending two nights there. Young people nowadays are much luckier - they are always provided with such luxury and comfort that people of my generation would never dream of having at their age.

Hopefully I have helped the students learn new things after the end of the session and get good grades for their upcoming examination, particularly for their English paper.

END OF YEAR HI-TEA FOR TEACHERS

16TH NOVEMBER ~ It was time for the annual event organized by KEBIRUS - the club for teachers and non-academic staff of the school. Selesa Hotel Johor Bahru was chosen this time which was good as it is quite near to my house.

Some people came here just with one mission, that was to eat. However, the ladies especially, took the extra effort to look more glamorous than any other ordinary days.

The event was quite simple. The speeches were short, the food was great and I was lucky to win a lucky draw prize this time (I hope it is an i-pad) - something that only happened once in a blue moon.

Congratulations to all the committee members who had made this event a success. Now we have to wait for one more year to do this again.

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP COURSE FOR ADMINISTRATIVE TEACHERS

When was the last time I attended a course in a hotel? It must have been a long time ago that I could remember when it was. So the principals, senior assistants (academic affair) and senior assistants of the afternoon session of Johor Bahru district were invited (or forced) to a one-day course at Selesa Hotel.

fated to sit beside each other

the first speaker and the one who officiated the opening ceremony

Even though I dozed off a bit at the initial part of the session, I managed to stay awake and I even copied down notes. And when I got bored, I took unnecessary pictures.

image captured from the mirror attached to the ceiling and can you find me in the picture?

The best part was there was some sort of a farewell lunch for a retiree and a principal who will be going to the State Education Department. Good food and comfortable place (although the hall was a bit warm), it was a course worth attending. However, I had to go away before the 2 o'clock session started to see the Kadet Bomba boys at the stadium, I did not complain but I was happier.

A MEETING DURING A SCHOOL HOLIDAY - MY 100th POSTING

Selesa Hotel, Pasir Gudang

Bad news: having to attend a meeting, representing the Principal, during the school holiday. Good news: it was held in a hotel. There was only one person whom I knew there so there was no socializing activity. It was a half-day event but I really think the whole session could be cut short into a quarter-day event. The food was good so there was not much to complain.

This is my 100th posting for my blog so I am trying to add some colours in. All this while, I just write and post pictures. After all, people are more interested in the content and the photos; I just don't have the time to explore more to make my blog's layout more attractive. I do envy some people with beautiful layouts but to do that will require quite some time.

Anyway, how do you like the new look of my blog? Any comments?
