THE FIRST OPEN DAY FOR 2014

Another activity which required parents to come to school was carried out today. Parents were invited to see the teachers to discuss the students' personal and academic development. The attendance was very encouraging which proved that parents gave their support and commitment towards their children's education.

At the same time, a briefing session was conducted for the parents of form one students. They were briefed on the School Based Assessment (PBS) and also something new called "SARANA IBU BAPA" [TRANSLATE: Parents involvement in assisting students to achieve success (my own version of the definition)]

Everything ended by 12 noon and the next open day will be held six months from now.

THE SECOND OPEN DAY OF THE YEAR

The second Open Day was held today. Parents and students started to arrive at 7:30 a.m. to see the form teachers or teachers in-charge. However, the weather was not that pleasant. We were still affected with the thick haze that filled the atmosphere and many were wearing  masks to school.

I don't have the statistics but from my observation, the number of parents who came to school was not that encouraging if compared to the time when they were asked to collect the RM100 students fund early this year. Would the situation be the same IF the money would only be given today, and not earlier? Would still parents turn up despite the haze?

CONGRATULATIONS to all the parents who had made the effort to come and one reason for doing that was because we care for our children's education and development in school.

I could not stay in school until the end as I had to leave earlier to attend another event in the afternoon. Everything should have gone well as the way it was planned, so no worries.

THE FIRST OPEN DAY FOR 2013

Saturday, 12th January 2013 ~ The first Open Day for 2013 was held in school. Only recently, we started to have the Open Day twice a year. It had been only once all this while. Perhaps, some people think that by organizing such event more often, parents would have the chance to see eye to eye with the teachers teaching their children.

The parents' attendance was not that encouraging though if compared to the sessions we had had in the previous years. As now they could already see and check the children's examination results online, the excitement of getting the report cards from the form teachers was not there anymore.

We also had a briefing for the School Based Assessment (PBS) which is said to replace the ordinary exam-oriented system. Parents of Form One students filled up the hall and they stayed right until the end and listened to the briefing given. The Q&A session was also fully utilized when a few stood up to ask for clarification regarding the implementation of the new system from the speakers.

There will be one more day when parents will be required to come to school VERY SOON for a different reason. We will make a comparison between the percentage of attendance between the two events but it is already speculated that almost everybody will be here in school on that day. We will wait and see.

THE SECOND OPEN DAY FOR 2012

The second Open Day for this year was held today. However, as the form one students do not sit for the mid-term exam and they have to do PBS (school-based assessment) as the first batch, a special briefing was held for the parents at the hall. This lasted for two hours before the parents went to see for the form teachers.

consultation sessions
Other than that, consultation sessions between the parents and teachers went on as usual. The same routine actually except that this time I was too occupied at the hall. Thank god everything went well as planned even though more parents turned up, more than what we had expected.

One more school event was over. Actually when we are in the second term, time would fly faster and before you know it, it is already the end of the school term. Wait and see if you don't believe my words.

THE FIRST OPEN DAY FOR 2012

The first Open Day was held today. Only the remove, form one, form two and form four students and parents came to school to see the teachers, to discuss about the students' development in school for the year 2011. With this session, parents had more chance to consult the teachers, twice a year if compared to only once in the previous years.

FIRST OPEN DAY FOR 2011

We used to have only one open day in one year but starting last year, we had twice. Parents were invited to school to see class teachers to discuss academic achievement as well as students' personal and social development. Parents were also able to pay the school fees today.

I was actually self-appointed myself (and Puan Maznah) to set up and monitor the counters for the payment by parents as it seemed no one was taking up the job. Someone had to do the dirty job. We could see the turn up was quite good and thank God, everything went well right through the end. It was time to keep the batik shirt until another formal event comes up later in March.
