SHANGHAI DAY 5 - NANJING ROAD IN THE MORNING

The last place we went to before heading back to the hotel after the Bund was Nanjing Road. It was still early but the whole stretch of pedestrian boulevard was already buzzing with activities. Many people in Shanghai were practicing a healthy lifestyle. The elderly mostly were busy in their own ways - dancing or "taichi-ing". This would be a scene that we could not see in Malaysia. Just imagine the reaction of the Malaysian public seeing a 60-year old woman doing a ballroom dance on the street.

So that wrapped up the 5-day visit to Shanghai. With a few more entries, the Shanghai stories would come to an end. Then I don't have anything else to post here. *sigh*

PEOPLE DANCING ON THE STREET IN SHANGHAI (PART 2)

The same group dancing but to a different song and with a better dance routine where there is a bit of jumping actions. These people must have enjoyed themselves a lot (though not really shown on their faces) and done something good for their health.

VIDEO - PEOPLE DANCING ON THE STREET IN SHANGHAI

In Shanghai, people really dance on the street, like what you always see in movies and musical TV series like "Glee". In this video, the ladies were dancing to the music from the portable loudspeaker in front of a shop on a busy shopping street. I had seen some other interesting street performances too early in the morning (as early as 7:00 a.m) and in the evening as well during my stay there.

The elderly were the ones participating in these activities, so they could both be for recreational and health purposes . Once I have uploaded them in my youtube, then I will post here. That will take some time though as it always takes a LOONGGG time to upload even a 2-minute video.

SHANGHAI DAY 1 - NANJING ROAD IN THE EVENING

The next venue that we went to in the evening was the well-known Nanjing Road. It is a long stretch of road with rows of shops and malls by its left and right side - starting from Nanjing Road East up to Nanjing Road West. Wikipedia describes this road as "one of the world's busiest shopping streets".

We were tired of walking so we went on a ride in one of the commuting trains that connected the east and the west. A passenger would be charged 5 yuan.

There was also a group of elderly ladies performing some sort of dance outside the mall. There were a lot of similar activities along this stretch of road when we went there a few times. I will post the videos recorded during the routine which I found quite entertaining.

WARNING: There would be street vendors who would approach you and try very hard to sell their merchandize that they carry with them like toys and wheels that could be attached to your shoes. Just say "NO" politely but if you are interested to buy, you will still have to bargain for the best price. Then, there are people who will come to you trying to sell (imitation) bags, watches or shoes but if you agree to do any business transaction, you may have to follow them somewhere. And lastly, there will be individuals offering massage service by beautiful ladies. They even have the photos of these women in their mobile (smart) phones for people to choose.

NEXT: The brightly-lit Bund and Pudong at night.
