ANOTHER BREAKFAST SESSION WITH MR. RIDWAN AND FAMILY IN PENANG

Lempeng Pisang a.k.a Banana Pancake

22ND DECEMBER 2024   ~ We were actually not that sure where to go for breakfast, perhaps we had been there frequently. We ended up at this food court in Kompleks Lebuh Nipah to get some local food.

Apam Lenggang, another type of
local pancake

This was my second time at Lebuh Nipah. I was introduced to this place by another UPM TESL friend back in 2022. [READ HERE]

Dim Sum

Fried Kuew Teow

The wait for the fried Kuey Teow took longer time as the queue was long this time.

Mr. Rdiwan seemed not to fancy the breakfast food from the food court this time so went to another Original Kayu Restaurant nearby.

My first time at this restaurant was in 2018 when I first went to visit Penang and there was a short gathering with my UPM TESL friends. [READ HERE]

The second time also with my TESL friends, when we went for supper after attending a wedding reception in the evening. [READ HERE]

Eventually, the breakfast had become brunch for me and I did not go out for lunch after that. There would be however the dinner session before leaving Penang.

THE SUPPER SESSION AFTER THE WEDDING RECEPTION

24TH FEBRUARY 2024 ~ After the wedding reception at Bizmilla Batu Kawan [READ HERE], we all adjourned for supper at Original Kayu Restaurant, led my the local, Puan Aishah Aboo Bakar.

Mr. Ridwan Wahid, his wife, daughter and I tried different types of breads as recommended by our host.

We were there at almost 10:00 p.m. but the place was very crowded. We managed to secure a table inside but we had to shout our hearts out to carry out our conversation. Definitely not the place if you want to enjoy your meal peacefully.

When in Penang, eat like Penangites do. DONE! But this was not the end of our Penang gastronomic adventure yet.

MY PENANG GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - "HAVING BREAKFAST AT ORIGINAL PENANG KAYU NASI KANDAR"

23rd MARCH 2018 ~ I arrived at Penang International Airport quite early, at 9:30 a.m. As planned by the moderator of the gathering, I first met Pn. Sharon Taty Mokhtar at the airport before the moderator herself, Pn. Aishah Aboo Bakar, picked us up in her red Beetle.

We went straight to this restaurant called Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar (there must be pirated version of this restaurant)for breakfast while waiting for other members of UPM TESL Class of 1993 of the northern part of the Peninsula to arrive. Therefore, my gastronomic adventure officially started.

First, I had roti canai (paratha), followed by a piece of tosei.

Then there was this vadeh.

Two more members safely secured their seats at the restaurant Puan Fauziah Abdul Rahim and Puan Zur'aiza Abdul Hamid, both from Kedah.

Finally I was forced to try puri, but I was not complaining.

Those were all the varieties of Indian food I had to try before the arrival of Puan Suhana Abdul Jamal (from Kedah too) and Puan Rozana Sani Abdullah Sani (taking the flight from KL), both accompanied by their sons.

Luckily the boys and I had to be sent to a mosque for our Friday prayer, or else these people would not leave the restaurant, like until forever.

This was just the beginning - there were more people coming to join us later, and to continue eating and roaming the streets of Georgetown.
