THE BREAKFAST SESSION AT THE BUS TERMINAL

the food court

21ST DECEMBER 2024   ~ The last gastronomic adventure before leaving Alor Setar took place at Shahab Perdana Bus Terminal. That should be the best choice as I had to board the express that will take me to Penang at 10:00 a.m. There was a food court nearby and I went to see what was available.

the bus terminal

Initially I wanted to have roti canai but was told that I would have to wait for quite some time as there were many orders from the customers. I then opted to get something that could be eaten there and then, so bought Beef Noodles instead from the stall called Haji Arif Selera Mee Sup. It was however a wise decision as the breakfast was delicious and only cost me RM6.

I then bade Alor Setar good bye, hoping to come back again some other time as there were still places I had not visited and food not tasted.

WHEN IN TAIWAN, EAT LIKE THE TAIWANESE DO

a very beefy bowl of noodles

4th June 2016 ~ I did some research before going and went ahead with my gastronomic adventure just for this bowl of (halal) beef noodles in Taipei. The restaurant is located near to Sun Yat Sen Memorial so that should make my hunting easier.

preserved vegetable (looks like cabbage) and mashed chili
The bowl of beef noodles was hot and spicy, and very beefy. I could feel sweat trickling from my neck down my back while savouring this steaming dish that just came out of the pot.

When I was there, there were all Chinese people and of course I did not know whether they are Muslims or not. However, there was a "HALAL" sign on the restaurant's signboard as well as Arabic words. If you are not convinced enough, there were also the photo of Kaabah in Mecca and Arabic calligraphy in the dining hall.

Here is A PICTORIAL GUIDE how to get to the restaurant:

[1] Take exit 1 of the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall Station.

[2] Walk straight and turn left at the first junction.

[3] Keep walking....

this is NOT the restaurant but you could see it
on your way there

[4] After a short while, you could see a shop with a white signboard and the picture of a bull/cow in red with the word "HALAL" in Arabic.

You have arrived at your destination.

I hope you will enjoy your beef noodles here.

P.S. You do not have to use Waze anymore.

THE GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE IN HCMC

This was not actually an adventure. The restaurant named "Kampung Pandan Restaurant" is located right in front of the hotel. There are many halal eating places at Ben Thanh Market area but the food is quite pricey. I decided to go this place as I had to try the well-known Vietnamese Beef Noodles.

It was delicious and I had it super hot with a lot of chilies. Definitely a must try when you go to Ho Chi Minh City.
