HAVING DIM SUM AND COFFEE AT KOPI PANGLIMA IN CONCUBINE LANE

25th AUGUST 2023     ~ I just had brunch at one Chinese Muslim restaurant [READ HERE] but decided to have coffee and Dim Sum after less than an hour. THE REASON: I had to wait for my turn to get into the Tea Museum at about 12:30 p.m. and I needed to kill some time.

Earlier, an ex-student suggested Kopi Panglime when I told him I would be going to Concubine Lane. I, without any hesistant, marched into cafe right after I found it at the entrance part of the lane.

It was actually an old shophouse that was converted into a hipster cafe and most of the original structure was still preserved.

It was a double storey building. The upper part of the cafe was not opened to the visitors yet but I was offered by the staff to go and see how it looked up there. I looked like a real tourist obviously.

Great coffee and delicious Dim Sum, and I was ready for my museum trip with the full tummy.

MY FIRST MEAL IN IPOH AT DAPUR BOROI

25TH AUGUST 2023      ~ It was quite late for breakfast, hence it should be brunch already for me. My gastronomic adventure in Ipoh started at the Chinese Muslim restaurant I came across which was located near the touristy Concubine Lane in Ipoh, just beside one museum I had visited.

The tables were already occupied by other Malay visitors when I came into the eating place. It must be a popular spot offering halal Chinese food here.

I chose the Wantan Chicken which was super delicious.

Just the place I will get back to in Ipoh if I am looking for Chinese food next time.

NOTE: Search for "ipoh char kueytiaw dapur boroi" on google map.

BRUNEI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

We arrived at the airport on the 28th May and had to bid farewell to Brunei at the same place on the 30th May 2023.

The airport was a small one and not busy at all.

The sign of the cafe in English was not only written in Jawi [Arabic letters] but was also translated into Bahasa Melayu.

You have to make it a point to visit the surau, or is a mosque?, when you are here. [READ HERE]

I am setting high hope to be coming back to Bandar Sri Begawan again some other time.

This is the very last post of my 3D2N Brunei trip with my ex-student, Mr. Solihin Ramli. Finally, everything was reported after almost 4 months. Hope I have shown you enough of what you should miss if you do not have any intention to be here.

THE 2-NIGHT STAY AT JUBILEE HOTEL, BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

With the [very] currency exchange rate, the most important criteria that we had to consider when booking a hotel should be its affordability. We chose Jubilee Hotel from 28 - 30th May 2023 as it should the most convenient accommodation within our budget.

Jubilee Hotel was quite an old hotel and the downside of this place was it needed a lot of work to improve its physical condition. I had been to many other hotels with better bathrooms. Anyway, if you are not a fussy traveler, or you just intend to spend the nights in the hotel room, these things would not be just small matters.

The most important thing was that its strategic location - near to the attractions in the city centre, within walking distance. Right behind the hotel was the Kianggeh Market, and there was also a boat jetty there if you plan to go on the river cruise to the Water Village.

We also got the free airport transfer when we arrived and were to get to the airport on the last day. If you need to get to any place in the city, you could also use the shuttle service provided by the hotel, but that was not free.

Breakfast was also included in the package. It was the big buffet breakfast. Just a decent one where you could order one kind of meal from the menu, and with tea or coffee.

Hopefully the hotel could improve especially the condition of the room if I were to come back and stay again in the future.

THE SURPRISINGLY BEAUTIFUL "SURAU" AT THE AIRPORT

30th MAY 2023    ~ We went to search for the "Surau" [a smaller version of a mosque] upon arrival at the airport. We were surprised when the building that we found was too beautiful. It looked more like a proper mosque rather than a "Surau".

I guess that is how things work in a rich country. This should be something commendable as travelers should be more comfortable to perform their prayers at Brunei International Airport.
