THE LAST FEW DAYS OF KAMPUNG MELAYU MARKET

These photos were taken a few days before the Kampung Melayu Market was demolished. There were the wet market, stalls selling food and a few rows of shops. It was too old and dirty, and people need a better facility. I used to come here to buy food for breakfast or vegetables. This place was famous for its ABC - "air batu campur" (mixed ingredients in sweet blended ice) and "yong tau fu" (steamboat-like dish). For the time being, the market is temporarily shifted to Taman Suria, behind Giant Hypermarket. A few of the well-known food stalls have also moved to other places.

Goodbye, cats!

I am looking forward to visiting a new, more modern and cleaner market place by the end of next year, without any price hike.

MOVIE REVIEW - THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Spidey is back. I went to watch the sequel to the first movie because of peer pressure :) The fighting scenes were enjoyable but there were too much of talking parts and I dozed off a few times, and the plot development was quite slow, I think.

So this time Spidey had to put up a fight against the villains: Electro,Harry Osborn and the Rhino. Even though Spidey won all the battles, his girlfriend, Gwen, died in the end of the story so it was tragic in a way.

Mr. Spidey in the house

There seems to be quite a number of interesting movies coming your way this summer (we have summer all year round, remember?) but most of them would be superhero movies, except "Godzilla".

While waiting for the release of new movies in cinema near you, let's all sing the old Spiderman theme song which was more catchy. How I miss the sweeter version of the superhero and whose life was less complicated.

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He's ingnored
Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider man.

SATURDAY WAS ATTENDING-WEDDING-INVITATIONS DAY

Saturday (3rd May 2014) was another day spent attending wedding invitations of an ex-student, a friend who is also a teacher/senior assistant of another school and a relative.

WEDDING #1

The first wedding was of Ms. Nur Husnina Arsad, from SPM batch 2002 (if I am not wrong). She took the trouble to see me and send the invitation card personally in school so I must not miss seeing her on her big day. Other than that, her two brothers are my ex-students too. The reception was done at her house in Taman Desa Skudai.

Mr. Hizami, the bride's younger brother

Cikgu Farid, an ex-student

This was actually the third wedding attended on that day but I had more things to tell so I start with this one first.

WEDDING #2

The second wedding came from Puan Roziah Abu Bakar, a friend who was a Senior Assistant of the Afternoon Session when we used to work together. I was excited as the event was held in "Galeri Glulam", a new building that I used to drive past all the while. I came very early and was one of the earliest guests as I had two more receptions to attend.

And suddenly I saw this. There would be a one-man angklung performance and I missed that. However, I had the chance to meet the artist in person and managed to ask for his business card.

WEDDING #3

The other wedding that I attended was actually the reception of my cousin's son. I was here quite early too, before the bride and bridegroom arrived at the community hall at Taman Desa Rahmat so there was not much to tell.

Too bad that people in Johor have not much choice but to have their wedding receptions only on Saturdays. We are having two weekends here, Friday for the government servants and Sunday for the private sector so Saturday will be the best time as people from both the government and private could attend. I am expecting to get many invitations in one day in the future. *sigh*

ATTENDING MR. SAMSULNAHAR'S WEDDING

Today is Labour Day and a public holiday. After angklung practice in school, I went to attend the wedding of Mohd. Samsulnahar Mohd. Yusof, an ex-student from SPM batch 2002 and also the head prefect of that time. The event was held at Taman Universiti. There were no ex-students to be seen so I just stayed there for a short while. He is now a teacher at SMK Seri Perling.

Wishing Mr. Samsulnahar and his beloved wife a happy and blessed marriage life for many many years to come and hope we can still meet for "teh tarik" and "roti canai" once in a while.
