A WALK IN RIZAL PARK ONE LATE AFTERNOON

29th AUGUST 2017 ~ Rizal Park is another tribute to the national hero of the Philippines, Jose Rizal. This is a  huge stretch of an open area with Intramuros at one end, and the Manilay Bay at the other. This should be a favourite hanging out space for the Filipinos during weekends and public holidays.

The first local warrior we met at Rizal Park was Lapu Lapu. His huge statue was to commemorate all his bravery to fight against the Spaniards. He killed Ferdinand Magellan and the Philippines was a free country until the Spaniards made their comeback 40 years later.

Another huge museum that could be found there was labelled the Museum of Natural History but it was not yet in operation when we were there. I have to check the internet about this place.

There were also numerous statues and sculptures of all the past heroes in the history of the Philippines.

the Philippines Marine Corps

We found the heart of Manila - kilometer zero.

We were there late in the afternoon when the sun was about to set in the horizon. There were actually other interesting spots in the park that we could not visit as time did not permit. And we had other plan too after this.

THE NATIONAL ART GALLERY IN MANILA

29th AUGUST 2017 ~ Located just behind the Museum of Anthropology is the National Art Gallery. People might miss this building as it is a bit hidden. No wonder the counter staff at the first museum and the staff at the entrance door were telling us about the Art Gallery upon arrival.

This is another majestic building which housed various works of arts - mostly paintings and sculptures. We were there quite late, an hour before closing time so we could not stay longer.

The place was too big for two tired people to explore. Art lovers should definitely spend more time here when you are in Manila.

THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY IN MANILA [PART 2]

The rest of the museum showcased the life of the people of the people in the Philippines, from the past to the present. Here, I got to learn more about the people from the Southern part of the archipelago which are closely related to the Malay ethnic.

The people of Philippines should be proud they have a grand museum like this. We had to leave the building as there was another huge museum nearby to be visited before it was closed to visitors.

SAMPLE PT3 ESSAY FOR NOVEL - AN IMPORTANT EVENT FROM "MOBY DICK"

QUESTION: From the novel you have read, write about an important event and give reasons to support your answer.
_____________________________________________

From the novel "Moby Dick", an event which is important is when Queequeg got seriously ill and he expected that he was about to die.

There was an incident when the crew on Pequod had to change the leaking oil barrels. The barrels were very heavy and only the strongest man could move them. Queequeg had to do this hard and heavy work for three days.

Then, Queequeg fell very sick. His body was as cold as ice one minute and then as hot as fire. He couldn't see and speak. Ishmael promised him to stay by his side until he got better. After two days, Queequeg asked his friends to make a coffin and put his harpoon, some food and water in it. Queequeg thought he was going to die. Ishmael sat, cried and waited beside Queequeg because he was very sad.

This event is important because it shows Ishmael is a loyal friend who did not leave Queequeg when he was in a bad condition. It also shows Ishmael as someone who is compassionate and a real friend at heart. I hope I will be like Ishmael when I grow up.

*NOTE:
By using the same content, you could also answer question the character (Ishmael), theme (friendship), moral value/lesson: compassionate/loyal/kind. But remember to change the introduction and concluding paragraphs to fulfill the requirement of the task.

ATTENDING THE WEDDING RECEPTION OF USTAZAH SITI ZABIDAH'S DAUGHTER

30th SEPTEMBER 2017 ~ An ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, Ustazah Siti Zabidah Adnan held the wedding reception for her daughter at her house in Taman Universiti. I was still invited and that was truly a kind gesture.

As usual, there were other friends/ex-colleagues and ex-students at the event and it felt just like the good, old time.

Thanks Ustazah Siti Zabidah for the invitation. There should be more wedding receptions after this and hopefully, she will still remember to invite me again.
