23rd MARCH 2018 ~ We managed to spot the famous Teochew Cendol in Penang Road. There was this one stall with a long queue of people trying to get their "cendol" but they all did not like tourists to me. So the tour guide opted for the other stall opposite, selling the same kind of dessert. The old lady seemed unhappy not many people visited her stall and she was saying something like: the stall in front was famous because people made it viral on Facebook.
What is "cendol" by the way? I will describe it as small strips of compressed green steamed rice flour eaten with coconut milk and other ingredients like read beans, corns and coconut sugar, and adding ice is a must. The dessert is best eaten when the weather is scorching hot to quench one's thirst.
How did I find my cendol? DELICIOUS! Not too sweet and the coconut milk was not too thick - everything was just moderate. If you happen to be there, and there is a long line at the stall under the big painting of a man eating cendol on the wall, you should try the cendol at the stall opposite instead. You will be grateful for the unnecessary waiting and standing under the hot sun.
I am now helping to promote auntie's cendol stall and hope this will be viral too.
