JAPAN DAY 3
20TH JULY 2024 ~ We first took the train from Sannomiya Station in the morning to Nara. When we arrived in town centre, we then had to take a bus to get to Nara Park. We ventured out from Kobe today just to see the deer which Nara was famous for.
I imagined the deer would be free inside a fenced or gated area, but how wrong I was. Even from inside the bus, as we were approaching the park, we could see the animals by the road side and roaming all the places happily.
All the deer looked tame and they had no fear mingling with the visitors. The deer roamed freely in the 600 hectares park.
You may wonder why were there so many deer in Nara? This is because deer is seen as a sacred animals and had been protected by the locals.
You could feed the animals by buying the rice cakes from the stalls. I found that they got a bit aggressive once they sensed you had food in your hands.
Wish I could take one of the many deer home, even though I already knew that was not going to happen.
