PORT OF KOBE EARTHQUAKE MEMORIAL PARK

21ST JULY 2024    ~ By the side of Meriken Park, there was this Port of Kobe Memorial Park. One could see the calamity done by the natural disaster that was left by the Great Hanshin Earthquake back in January 1995.

Instead of repairing, the damage left by the earthquake was preserved by the authority for people to remember the historic disaster of the century.

4751 people were killed in the city while injuring 15000 others. Many were left homeless as structures collapsed. This is one of the worst tragedy ever for Kobe.

Besides this Memorial Park, I just found out that there is also this Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial Museum which should provide more information. I would definitely have to go back to Kobe one day to visit this museum.
