17th DECEMBER 2022 ~ This was the last museum visited during my stay in Penang. Wonderfood Museum displayed all the food, or most of the food, that could be found in the country. They were all made from clay or plasticine, but looked so real and better that the real things.
So who was the genius behind all these magnificent creations?
NG CHAI HONG - Malaysia's one and only food replica producer. Out of interest, she has been making handicrafts and experimenting with all sorts of clay as well as plasticine since young. After graduation, she was actively engaged in children's art education. By chance, she was invited to produce food replicas for a restaurant.
From then on, she developed an unbreakable bond with food replicas, Although not educated in orthodox manner, her unique food replica artworks were created by her interests in handicrafts and a sensitive touch of colour and moulding. From 2002 onwards, she has provided a stunning array of outstanding food, insect and plant replica for local and oversea food industries, health sectors and museums in Malaysia. The world-class artwork of replica in Wonderfood Museum were created and produced under her guidance with pure natural inspiration and handiwork.

People would get to know more about the food and its roles in the Malaysian culture and they also get to take a lot of photos with the colourful food replicas all around. People seemed to be more interested with the latter, rather than the first.
There was still other local food that was not yet displayed in the museum, like the delicacies from Sabah and Sarawak, the East Coast and even from Johor. Maybe there was not enough space to do that.
I think if the museum comes up with real restaurant or cafe, selling real food, it will be good business. All those colourful replicas really could make the visitors become extremely hungry.
