The after school session outdoor activity that was carried out today was the long-awaited gastronomic adventure involving the male colleagues of SMK Dato' Jaafar. The most recent outing trip in a big group was two weeks ago. The eating spot chosen this time was Zainal's Place in Taman Sri Tebrau which is just near the school, less than 10 minutes' drive away. It was my first time there. All this while, I just drove past the place, hoping one day would stop by.
We were informed by those who had been here the specialty of this place is its authentic Johor Mee Rebus, so we all had a plate of it each.
However, only one person had a different preference than the crowd and he chose Soto instead.
The place was not full but there were quite a number of non-Malays eating here when we arrived. One indicator that tells a Malay restaurant is popular is when there are many non-Malays visiting.
The meeting this time was different because we had Tuan Haji Repangi who retired last year and Mr. Tukiman Sarmin who had been transferred and promoted to other school who decided to join us.
As for the Mee Rebus, my verdict is: it is the Johor Mee Rebus the way the gravy it should be and it is highly recommended. Now I have another option of a place to take my friends to eat when they come to Johor Bahru.
It was a short meeting and we had to go as the parking tickets had already exceeded the time limit and the Town Council inspectorate was seen in front of the restaurant doing his rounds. Someone has already planned for another get together a.k.a eating out session after school soon. I unhesitatingly have already signed up for the activity. 😊
