EXPLORING THE TOWN OF TANJUNG BALAI

6th FEBRUARY 2019 ~ Right after checking in at the hotel, we started to explore the small town of Tanjung Balai on foot. The roads were not busy most probably because it was just the second day of Chinese New Year, or it is actually the way it is even on normal days.

could be a government office building

Many of the shops were still closed. The place reminded of our own old town of Johor Bahru, Muar and Batu Pahat. The design of the shop houses are similar to what we have here.

The place looked relaxed and time moved at a slower pace here.

If you are looking for a big air-conditioned shopping mall, then you will be disappointed.

even the houses had similar designs as ours

The only thing that irritated me the most was the mini van taxis which kept honking at us while we were walking, hoping that we would jump into one of them for a ride. When almost every driver did that, it made me feel like shouting "NO! I DON'T WANT!" loudly at them.

We spent more than an hour walking around so it was that small actually. I think we were the only tourists there on that day but then we actually looked like the locals.
