BUYING "KUIH" AT A STALL BY THE ROADSIDE IN TANJUNG PANDAN

25th OCTOBER 2019 ~ When we saw there was a stall selling traditional/local "kuih" by the roadside somewhere near Ah Hok's house in Tanjung Pandan town, the driver cum the tourist guide cum the husband of one of the group members had to stop the car. We really had to see what were the food items like in Belitung Island to satisfy our curious minds.

KUIH - a dessert-like food item, usually sweet or sometimes spicy, eaten for breakfast or tea, or even after or in between the major meals.

There were a huge variety of colourful "kuih" sold that late afternoon, making it difficult to choose. We found that most of the "kuihs" sold are the same or similar to what we have back home in Malaysia.

Gastronomic adventure could take place almost everywhere when you travel in Indonesia.

It is actually quite difficult to get people selling traditional "kuih" at home (in Johor Bahru) in the afternoon, especially with so many choices like this. We only get to see this in the morning or at the night market (but not all).

We did not buy a lot of "kuih" actually but more time was spent there looking, deciding and taking photographs. That should be alright as we should look like tourists who asked a lot of questions and the seller must either have had a fun or hard time entertaining us.
