VISITING THE BIDAYUH AND IBAN LONGHOUSES IN SARAWAK CULTURAL VILLAGE

6TH SEPTEMBER 2022  ~ The last leg of the visit left us with two more ethnic houses to be visited in Sarawak Cultural Village.

BIDAYUH LONG HOUSE

Another longhouse built on tall stilts, the Bidayuh Longhouse is unique as there was this centre part of the house with skulls hanging from the roof. I couldn't really remember the details but those skulls could belong to the enemies that were killed. Do correct me if I am wrong.

We were also presented with a dance which was accompanied by the beat of a huge drum and gong. The girl in the photo was not a local but an intern of a local university doing her practical session there but she could dance really well.

IBAN LONGHOUSE

The very last house visited was the Iban Longhouse. Similar to other ethnic houses, there were people doing demonstration of the daily activities that were carried out by the occupants of the house.

By this time, we were already exhausted. We had been walking around the village and at the same time, we had been climbing all the tall stairs too. We could not stay longer as we had to get to the theatre so as to make sure not to miss the cultural show that would start in about 20 minutes.

The visits to all the houses were very educational and I had become a more knowledgeable person. Definitely a must visit attraction when you are in Kuching and kudos to the people who have come up with such a great place to boost tourism of Sarawak.
