Johor Bahru District Chess Competition for secondary schools was back again this year. The competition was held from 10th to 11th April 2019 and glad I got to meet with people whom I have been working with for many years. It was like an annual reunion.
I was again involved as one of the technical committee members as well as chaperoning students from SMK Dato' Jaafar.
The event was organized more efficiently this year as schools had to pay for the chess sets and clocks which were rented. Before this, individual schools had to bring their own equipment to be used in the tournament and managing this was always a big headache.
As for SMK Dato' Jaafar team, they did better this year as two students managed to win medals and one team emerged as the 4th place winner.
There will be a selection for the state level players so I might go to the next competition if someone from school is chosen. Let's wait and see.
